Forums - Sony - I finally understand Sonys 10 year plan!

The most future proof console is the one that has users that care least about power and graphics. Look at what's keeping the PS2 alive, casual and sports games. The Wii has the lock on casual games. The 360 has gathered a substantial sports audience.

The owner that cares most about graphics is the first to jump ship when a more powerful system is released. That is precisely the demographic the PS3 has attracted.

Why wouldn't it work, it worked 2 times before?

The next gen is going to be focused more on connecting everyone together. So many people still don't have BB connections.

Playing and finishing games first>>>>>>>>>>Then talking!

Opinions are subjective and just like moods, can change.

TOP 12: Deus Ex, Shadow Man, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturn, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Metroid Prime, Zelda (series), Uncharted (series), FF Tactics, Persona (series), Demons Souls, Vagrant Story.

MOST WANTED: Deus Ex: Human Revolution, The Last Guardian, ICO/Shadow OTC HD

With the PS3 tho, it's problam now isn't brand awareness, nor brand credibility, it is simply the high price tag, and SONY knows this. All it will take is lowering the price and u watch it sell. I think a lot of SONY "haters" are in denial about this simple fact.

Sorry, my mistake.

The PS3 is hardly the most "future-proof" console given it's lack of RAM and slow Blu-Ray drive mean that it's already taking longer development times to get a game looking even as good as the 360 version, let alone excel.

The only reason Sony have a 10 year plan for the PS3 is because they can't afford to pay for the development of a PS4 for the next 10 years.

What do you guys think? I think if this is the 10 year plan Sony has made - I love it, whether it works or fails, you've got to respect them for risking it and trying a new tactic.

1. It wont be the most powerful console if MS and ninty release new systems.

2. Dedciated players will be far under $150 by 2010-2012

3. Then why wouldnt they pick up a 360 or Wii? Remember that the PS2 outsold the 360 during its first year on the market.

Anyways, what the 10 year plan meant wasn't what you just laid out. They meant it in the same vein that the PS1 had a ten year life, or how the PS2 is nearing 10 years. That is to say you replace the system in your primary market and sell the previous one as a discount system all the while you can continue to push the older system in undeveloped markets.

Microsoft already announced that they will have the Xbox 360 duke it out with Sony's 10 year plan and end the 360 one day after the Sony gives up on the PS3. What Sony is doing with the PS3 is assuming that the mass of people who haven't purchased a next gen system will just flock to the PS3 over time.

Logical Fission just got Mailed.

This is arguable according to a lot of people on this site.

Also, the gap between the 360 and the PS3 sports are closing rapidly. These are the gaps the 360 has over the ps3 yearly.

Madden

07 - 1.42 million
08 - 1.50 million
09 - .63 million

NCAA

08 - .46
09 - .23

NBA Live

08 - .14
09 - .04

NBA

2k8 - .45
2k9 - .27

Tiger Woods

08 - .55
09 - .09

MLB

2k8 - .53
2k9 - .5

Smackdown

08 - .18
09 - .11

Hockey is one that seems to not be changing in the gap or are increasing for the 360.

NHL

08 - .10
NHL - .16

NHL

2k8 - .05
2k9 - .05

PS3 still has complete advantage over the 360 in Soccer/Football

Pro Evolution Soccer

2008 - .51
2009 - .76

FIFA

08 - .10
09 - .22

I never said the 360 dominated the sports genre, however it's big enough to prevent the PS3 from owning the genre. That means people won't be compelled to buy one system over the other based on sports games, unlike the PS2 which owns that market for the older system buyer.

The arichitecture of the console doesn't really matter. Developping for the PS3 might be harder, it's still doable small developers for PSN games can do it and also all big developers. It's about userbase PS3 has the advantage if Microsoft and Nintendo start from scratch. 360 will definatly die if it's succesor has launched. Otherwise there is not many hope for microsoft to support 2 systems. They won't be able to release as many games as Sony can do with their 1st party developers.

I wonder how well the Wii will be doing when Ninendo has released it's succesor and PS3 is competing with motion-based games for the casual market.

The whole 10 year plan is just a PR bullshit which is thrown down our throats by Kaz Hirai and sony's "brilliant" PR officers. Sony wont be able to keep PS3 on the market for 10 years because no one will be interested in it after next generation rolls in, it's always the leading console that survives well into next generation not last one. Console that are doing badly: DC, Saturn, GC from the start will not miracously recover even with a price cut because Public does not want to buy it (99$ GC)

PS3 is not powerful enough for the 8th generation, look at the amount of designated RAM it has, it will also have a slow BD by around 2011, what makes you think that customers that did not choose a PS3 in 2008, 2009 will eventually get in in 2012? When Wii, Wii2 and Xbox 3 will be on the Martket? PS4 will be out around this same time as competition.

Do you really believe that Sony have planned all of that from the start? Cause i just cannot imagine them taking so much risk after 2 generations of domination, they were just to cocky in puting new format in and raising the price and they will never recover from that in this generation.
