They didnt have this plan. Remember how much they screwed up with the PS3 at its launch? They were being greedy and got screwed, and now their trying to regain control. What you stated was not their plan.

By the time Nintendo bothers to release a system technology would have moved on so much that they could build a system that was cheaper, faster and with Blu Ray when compared to the PS3.

Consider -> DDR3, GDDR5 -> 60GB Sec bandwidth on a 128 bit bus compared to 25GB or something?

They could use a 4x Blu Ray drive instead of a 2x and they wouldn't need that HDD which will cost Sony at least $30 for the life of the system.

Current GPUs such as the HD 4670 come with 512MB GDDR3 ram (Same as 360) with twice the texturing and 3x the shader power for $80 RETAIL!

Flash will become a viable storage method.

Yes, it was. Unfortunately, it's customers who extend the lifetime of a console (companies can merely reduce it).

That's why Sony's "10-year plan" is just a marketing gimmick.

i also thought bout theis theory here it was in a post called ps3 until 2018 i was thinking that sony intentionally put a blu ray drive in the ps3 to destroy the next xbox for this to work future ps3 games need to be way better than they are now so people see no need for the next xbox and the next xbox needs to be priced higher that 400$ at launch

The strategy you suggest is the same if Nintendo or M$ had kept going with GC and XB.
The idea fails, when 3rd parties aren't interested in the console anymore. Considering the market will give Wii the longest life, in similar fashion with PS2, the developers will keep supporting the Wii the longest, out of the current gen consoles. Also, as Squiliam pointed out, the competition could introduce consoles with lower production costs by having a different design.

Sorry buddy, it's not.  Not for gaming anyways.  The PS3's design is a mess.  Next time you want someone to read your post, don't put them off by saying stupid things like this.  If you really wanna argue this point i'm sure I can do 5 minutes of research to show you exactly why the ps3 is a pos compared to the 360, even though in general it uses "better" equipment.  Heck, except for the increase in space, even using blu-ray is worse for gaming compared to a dvd.  However, you're obviously a fanboy who can't be bothered to do 5 minutes of research, so i'm sorry for wasting 1 minute of your time reading this post.

Actually, I just remembered these existed.  Don't even have to spend 5 minutes looking for info.  They're a little unfair sometimes when talking about things that aren't technical, but they're spot on when talking about the technical workings of the ps3.
