Forums - Gaming - FF titles do better on PSP rather than on ds?:

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII: 1.86m
FFT: War of the Lions: 0.65m
Dissidia: Final Fantasy: 0.50m
Final Fantasy Anniversary: 0.30m
Final Fantasy II Anniversary: 0.21m

Total: 3.52m

Final Fantasy III DS: 2.26m
Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings: 1.30m
Final Fantasy IV DS: 1.04m
FFCC: Ring of Fates: 0.68m
FFTA2: Grimoire of the Rift: 0.55m

Total: 5.83m

Um, when did 5.83 million become less than 3.52 million? Could somebody clear this up for me?

EDIT: Even following the arbitrary and totally nonsensical exclusion of remakes, the DS is still up over PSP, 2.36mil PSP vs. 2.53mil DS.

Offerings are the problems, DS is getting remakes like FF III or IV which are great but they still do not get this same amount of Hype, resources and time like titles on the PSP.

PSP gets big new games like FF XIII Agito, Crisis Core , Dissidia so i am not suprised that they selling so well in Japan especially (hell they deserve it). And PSP is more suited for pretty graphics (something that SE does phenomenally)

PSP has one of my favourite games ever FF:Tactis War of the Lions, i would give a lot for some sort of DS port

FF Dissidia is currently closer to 700,000 according to Famitsu, and has yet to be released in the West.

Also, profit is important as well.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

You're trying to get a complete picture. The article's author is more...selective...about his data. From the article:

"For the purpose of this article, we will look purely at the original Final Fantasy titles which have been released on each of the handheld consoles... Taking this into consideration, we end up with 2 titles released for the PSP, and 6 titles released for the DS...this analysis will only be based on Japanese data..."

I'd also like to add the fact that this analysis is all over the place. It goes from "A, but then we see B, and furthermore C, except don't forget D," resulting in a bit of a mess. At the end, I'm not at all sure what it's concluding (is it concluding anything?), let alone how it arrived there.

Profit is more important than anything else, to a business which intends to survive. It is the driving force behind every decision, because a business which is not profitable is a business which does not survive. How long did Crisis Core take to develop, again? 3, 4 years? And how much did it cost them to make? Definitely a lot more than it cost to develop any of the DS FF games; I've played Crisis Core all the way through, and the production values on that game are insanely high. A game which sells 500,000 copies at $15 profit per copy is more successful than a game which sells 1,000,000 copies at $5 profit per copy, especially if the budget to make the former game cost only a third of the budget for the million-seller.

Well you are comparing new games to games that have been remade several times!

Let's take the example of Final Fantasy IV. It was originally released on the Super Nintendo. Then it was re-released on the PS1 and after that on the Wonderswan Color(in Japan).
Then it was re-released again on the GBA and then remade in 3d on the DS. As you can see this is the 5th iteration of the game(4th if you don't include the JP only WSC release), you can't expect it to sell insane numbers after so many re-releases of the game.

FFIV releases:
1) SNES
2) PS1
3) Wonderswan Color (JP only)
4) GBA
5) DS

starcraft: "I and every PS3 fanboy alive are waiting for Versus more than FFXIII.
Me since the games were revealed, the fanboys since E3."

Skeeuk: "playstation 3 is the ultimate in gaming acceleration"

Which is funny, because it sold insane numbers after so many re-releases anyway. FF4DS is one of the most successful versions of FF4.

Not hard to believe, i mean the PSP is getting new FF titles like Dissidia and Crisis Core meanwhile the DS got two remakes of previous titles. True, there in 3d but how many ports of Final Fantasy 4 are there? Not quite a fair comparison IMO.

It should also be noted that the competition is also much more fierce on the DS since it's totally flooded with JRPG's and other similar titles/genres.  Also worth noting is the PSP's well-known "lack of games" compared to the DS.  With such a slimmer selection, it's no wonder higher-profile PSP titles sell so strongly initially.
