Forums - Sony - How often does Sony promote specific PS3 exclusive games on TV?

In this holiday season here in the United State, I am seeing some PS3 ads.  What I am seeing, however, is general ads for the PS3 system, and not really promotion for specific games.  Oh, multiplatform games, Sony will get in the act (saw this with CoD4:MW).  But stand alone games, how often?  The most recent add I saw mentioned Resistance 2 and Motorstorm.  It didn't even show them.  Just some guy telling his girlfriend that he just bought a movie download machine.

I am just curious where the advertising for specific games are.  Am I missing something here?  Does Sony heavily promote specific games it has any more?

They do alright, I've seen ads for Heavenly Sword, and loads for LBP. But it's nothing compared to Wii/DS marketing.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

sony doesnt advertise enough. Microsoft, on the other hand, shows an xbox 360 commerical practically every time I watch tv.

There was a lot of Heavenly Sword when it came out. Same with Ratchet and Clank. I've seen both Motorstorm 2 and Resistance 2. Right now the ad I see the most is the general one - shows LBP, Motorstorm, The Dark Knight and some other stuff in like 30 seconds. But it's a horrible ad, since you can't really tell what it's all about (except the Dark Knight part). If I hadn't had experience with those PS3 games shown, I wouldn't have had a clue as to what was going on.

Here in the UK there are hardly any PS3 adverts, Singstar Abba and LBP the only ones I have seen. MS just put the 360 logo at the end of every advert for multi-plat games and it works for them. Nintendo are just monsters, family sitting together playing Mario Kart, pop groups like 'Girls Aloud' playing Mario kart DS etc.

Anyone have any idea what Sony will be doing with Killzone 2 and advertising for it? Not sure how well KZ2 will hold up, if Sony does these generic system ads, like the movie download machine spots.

Never, if any rarely 1 at 2 am, when nobody is awake.

Not one single resistance 2 advert have i seen since the games release here in the UK. NOT ONE

All of a sudden?...

They haven't been doing good ads since quite some time.

The LBP ads were "okay", the MS ads were odd (especially the reflection in the glass - puddle ones), none about R2, the matroesjka's picture was just gruesome.

The best ad they have ever done is "... but at least I can say... I've lived"-ad (quickly followed by the "we few, we happy few")

Otherwise, they have pretty much sucked all the way to the white house.

It might be Sony views itself first, and foremost, a hardware company, so they feel they need to market from they are selling a piece of equipment that has cool features.  Contrast that with Microsoft and Nintendo, that are software first companies.  Yes, Nintendo makes hardware, but marketing franchises, mascots and specific games, seem to be their approach.  Microsoft is straight up software.  So, maybe it is, when Sony feels it needs to up the efforts, it goes back to selling the PS3 has a hardware solution.  Now, they are pushing the Playstation Network, with their downloading movie machine spot.
