Forums - PC - nasty microsoft

ok, ive a problem, or not a real problem but i can get real irritated by the following and i want to know how to get rid of it, and iof more people suffer from it.

when i write a website down, f.e. www.vgchartz.com in the urlbar normally it will go to this website.

however, sometimes it bumps into "live search" saying do you mean "vgchartz.com". normally when i write the url wrong its fine with me, BUT i always check my url when i get is and i noticed alot of those "wrong cant find url live search screen" with a good written url.

so honestly i think MS is doing it to compete with google since google is more way more used then the live search of microsoft. and they try to force me into their search by scripting it. so....

how i get rid of it?

p.s installing firefox of netscape doesnt count ;)

life isn't complicated, just face it simple.

Around the Network

Put in http:// in front of the address.

Don't use the IE. It always does that if:

Can't find the domain by DNS (Bad timeouts).

Sometimes also:

Target is refusing the connection (e.g. vgchartz is under heavy load).

Just use Firefox or opera ;)

Use Firefox (or Opera, but FF is easier to transition to in my opinion). It's secure, free software*, more standards compliant than IE and easily extendable with many features.

*Don't get me started. I use Linux.

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Seriously, install firefox, never ever use IE. IE is the single biggest threat to any windows machine, security problems go unpatch for years literally. Firefox patches security flaws in 10 days or less for 99% of problems. Also in addition to that Firefox is far more HTML compliant than IE.

Do yourself a favor and get firefox, people don't say this just to convert others, they say it because it is good for your computer and will save you headaches. You can import all of your IE bookmarks when firefox installs, it even asks you if you want to.

I've got IE and NEVER experience that problem, so that it has to do with IE is a bit of nonsense!

Older versions of IE do it less. Onna, are you on IE 7?

There is a registry setting to fix it, but I don't feel like looking it up.

I have no idea if this specific problem is IE related or something he has installed, but I can tell you and him both that IE is not a secure browser. It only takes one website you visit to infest your computer with a virus or turn it into a bot. Neither of you have to believe me or even listen to me, but realise that I don't get paid by anyone to say this so I have no incentive other than genuinely trying to help.

Both of these links are to the security analysis group known as Secunia. These guys are professionals, see what they have to say about IE 7.x (first link) and Firefox 2.0.x (second link). They give ratings for how critical the worst problem is, IE 7.x has "Highly Critical" and Firefox 2.0.x has "Less Critical". Ironically IE6 is more secure with a "Moderate" rating. But anyways you can delve into all of the problems and they will give you the specific details of the flaws and if you really want you can test them for yourself.

I am not making this stuff up I promise you.

Absolutely. Your problem won't happen with Firefox guaranteed and it's also more secure. So Firefox has less vulnerabilities, those vulnerabilities are less critical, they are patched faster and more of them are patched.

As a matter of fact "I am" and I don't see any reasons why I should change, use IE ever since I got a computer and am more then pleased about it. At least I don't download all kinds of stuff from the Internet, maybe that has to do with the security problems on your computers. Or ever thought of running an adaware on your PC? It's so easy to blame MS for all of this while people who're collecting junk on their computers but don't even know about it.
