Forums - Gaming - What's your favourite 'cult game'?

Earthbound because of the cults or Max Payne because of the Cthulhu worshipper. That final run up the hill in the Thing where you have to pull off headshots is nice too.  And my favorite 6.9 rated game is Evil Dead Regeneration on original XBOX.  The best series of all time that should have had a bigger following is Shenmue I and II imo.

     So I guess

Earthbound on SNES

Shenmue on Dreamcast

and Shenmue II, Max Payne, The Thing, and Evil Dead Regenereation on original xbox.  Most, if not all, of these work on 360 as well.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction

It is the best sandbox game ever. Yeah, I said it, better than GTA. Much better.

Hmm, must dig out my SNES and Mega Drive, see which version I have.

I loved Shining Force Exa. Not exactly the Shining Force I had in mind but I liked the mixture of action RPG and tower defense gameplay. The voice acting was baaaad (in an RE kind of way). Definitely a "cult" game.

Panzer Dragoon I and Zwei (never had Saga), definitely cult classics.

Also Legend of Oasis, Beyond Oasis and Gaiares (can't believe I finished that game).

Edit: To those who doubt Gaiares' cult status, go check the advertisement...

I am the only person on VGChartz to own the SNES masterpiece 'Warlock' bow before my obscure might :P

Out of curiosity, I just looked through my game collection, and I am the only person who owns a game six times.  One GBA game, three GB Color games, and two GB games.

After reading this, and thinking on it, I would have to say the Warlords: Battlecry RTS series on the PC. This title uses sprites, but has an advanced AI, great interface, and persistant heroes that level up. Definitely a cult title, because it got lost under C&C and Warcraft. This was the PC game Warlords, done as an RTS. Warlords is like Advanced Wars, turn-based war, except with fantasy creatures, and more RPG elements.

Anyhow, the makers recycled concept and material and put it in Puzzle Quest, which happened to put a new niche on the map and get acclaim for it.

Lemme see here...

I've been a big fan of 2D Castlevania since Circle of the Moon. It's a shame to see Order of Ecclesia struggle at the hands of consumers. It's such a good game.

I played the Wii version of Okami earlier this year, and it was truly wonderful. It's my Game of the Year and it deserves so much more than the 300k sales Capcom has reported.

Other than that, Conker's Bad Fur Day on the N64 was one of my favorite games on the platform. A sound game when it came to the core elements, and it had a hilarity to it that is still so memorable.

There's plenty more for me, but those three are some of my favorites that have struggled to find an audience.

Freedom Fighters (PS2)

It did have it's design flaws, but man it has great potencial.

I wish they would make a sequel.

Actually, the game isn't selling all that bad.  The game got pretty good legs for a core game.  It will definitely reach, if nor surpass, DoS's LTD numbers.
