Forums - Sales - Trading In games Is a Rip Off IMO

Is there an equivalent of Craigslist in Europe? With some patience, you can sell it for at least 2/3 of the original price, if the game is good and not too far from its release date.

It's a total ripoff. They shouldn't make more than five bucks off of your used game.

I've only traded in one game my entire life and that would be GTAIV. I used the credit to help pay for NHL 09. =]

I've only sold a few games that I've owned. They were games that I played a bit and just had no interest in and could at least get a reasonable amount back. The think I won't do though is buy used games from them if I can still buy the game new somewhere else. It makes no sense to buy a used game if it's only a few dollars cheaper.

If the game is $60 new somewhere and Gamestop has it for $55 used, why would I buy it used just to save five dollars? If saving five dollars is that important, I'll wait till it's on sale. I bought GTA4 for $37.99, Madden 09 for about the same price. And this week, I might buy Smackdown Vs. Raw and or Saints Row 2 for $39 each. The prices for all of those four (and there are a bunch of other sales going on too) are cheaper than the prices you would find on used copies at Gamestop.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

Support the publishers.

You support them by buying the game. If they made games that were fun for a longer time or had a lower MSRP less people would resell them.

6-8h solo playing campaigns simply are not acceptable. Neither is 60-70 Euro what is asked currently for a PS360 game.

Every game can't be 20 hours long with infinite multi-player replayability.

If that's the case, make sure you buy every single FPS to date, and you should be fine.

I am beginning to agree reask

Game store over here have strated a rental service, where you can have up to two games on rental at any one time (keep them for as along as you like) for £10 per month... I think I may look into this. Just buying the games I really want to keep long term.

£120 per year and I could easily get through 20 games in that period.

Thats quite good actually.

My local Xtravision charges 10 Euro a week rental per game.

I would take anything up to a month to finish a game as my time is limited so that option for me is no good.

I guess because they still sell some copies to the rental companies. In the case of Gamefly, you can easily buy the game you've rented, so this probably helps with sales a little, too. I'm sure they don't like rentals, but it's better for them than to have people simply lending games to one another.

Obviously you have to be a bit savvy. I bought Mario and Sonic brand new on offer in Morrison's for £15 and traded it in a month later at GAME for £20 (part exchange). If I'm offered less than half the price I originally paid for it I often keep hold of the game, but really, if you're never going to play a game again, you may as well get what you can for it (though I imagine in a lot of cases ebay would be a better bet than a shop).

@ reask..

Actually its £14.99 per month for 2 games (9.99 for one)... just checked.. still a good deal though I reckon. And it apperars to be avialable in ROI

Thats a good deal koweniciki thanks for the heads up.

There is no Game in my town just gamestop but I will check online as I imagine they would do a postal service with them.

Mind you the Irish deal probably wont be as good.
