Forums - Sony - HOME To Be A BETA Indefinitely

Does this mean Home will just keep getting better and better, until eventually....it's still getting better and better, indefinitely?

Ignore the 'Beta' nonsense, you are right that stuff would be added all the time irrespective of the tag they put on it, once the core system is mature, the word 'beta' has no meaning because the rest of the stuff being added literaly are 'addons'. The fact is we as playstation owners are their only customers for a free system so at the moment they can throw about all these ideas.

In any case, i would put good money on the beta tag being wiped off the name as soon as home starts getting positive press, at that point it would hold more negative connotations than positive ones.

no, it just means that Home will continue to be filled with problems and lack promised features and now it can just always say well it's a beta.

The difference between something like gmail and Home is that one is good and actually released with stuff people wanted and the other released with about 30 dance animations and not a lot else.

So this means at this point we can't really expect what we want in Home to be added into it.

-_-

I'm sure stuff will get added eventually, I'm just not sure everything will actually get added *and* finished.

I would correct you there, the major difference between home and gmail is that most of gmail and google functionallity is written by students that dont get paid for it.

Who is "everyone"?

I distincly remember lots of people saying it'd be exactly like GMail, and they'd use beta as a reason to have missing features.

Everyone - The general public, the masses, the members of this site

He tried to inform them and he got flamed... oh I just realized how my original comment makes it sound. I'll edit my post!

Its just marketing, they want the term 'open beta' to be synonymous with a system that is constantly being added to.

Which i personally think i is a bit of daft idea as soon enough down the line media will be touting 'Christ, Home still in beta'

Listening to the interview its sounded more like an off the cuff idea so dont be suprised if it doesnt last.

As i said it make no difference, they will still be adding to it as was always the plan, 'Beta' is just a poor term to try to market on their part as soon enough the core system will be finished and fairly stable.

Look whos talking...

actually im pretty sure it was ssj12 who was talking about gmail and betas... and I'm pretty sure the majority of the members agreed.... but hey whenever you have a chance to try and generalize the ps3 fanbase and try to belittle them you take it right...
