Forums - Nintendo - FF VI DS!?!

I know. I've had the FFIII remake since it came out.

However, the DS's reigning lifespan - without a replacement - very possibly will not last for another four years from now. Additionally, remakes usually start coming out more quickly after they start 'em coming.

Remaking a gorgeous game like Final Fantasy VI into the DS's limited, pointy 3-D graphics is beyond stupid. It'd be a long way from being an actual improvement.

FFIV DS was a measured improvement.

Eh, I think they should stick with 2D on the DS, and put 3D remakes on the PSP.

No.

More resources aimed at the PSP is bad for business.

Bad for business? Square Enix games are selling very well on that handheld...

In comparison to the DS, I mean.

Though Final Fantasy remakes have not historically done well on the PSP.

I think you mean they should start putting 3D remakes on the PSP. Of the actual remakes, those are 2D (FFI, FFII, FFT, and Star Ocean I & II).

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

PSP had no remakes on the same scale (both in scope and investment) as FFIII and IV. If it gets one, we'll be able to compare. Until then...

Would be a definite buy for me.

All right, fair enough, point conceded.

But Square apparently doesn't think the risk is worth it at this juncture, is all I am saying.

How do you know they don't think the risk is worth it?  All of their upcoming PSP games, including the recently Dissidia, are in that ballpark. In fact Dissidia's first week is relatively close to FFIV's LTD - and that was the last remake released in Japan.
