| DavidValbu said: Riachu, do you really think Mario is huge in Japan? Mario WAS huge in Japan, now is normal. Super Mario Galaxy still has not reached 1M (is at 0.99M, I know). If you refer to Mario kart then yes, it is a hit....but related to platform titles on consoles (not handhelds).... |

yes I do not consider 5.3 million huge...
I think it is safer to say 3d type gaming is not huge in a Japan.
End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)
Wii- 72 million 3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases
360- 37 million Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak
PS3- 29 million Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut
Thanks. I could have sworn someone has posted that it was.
Well Ive got a good feeling about this game. Both in quality and in sales. Hope it gets localized.
Hum Fraile remind me so much of the movie 5 centimeters per second. I guess it is because of the music. Don't hope too much for this game in Japan cause it probably gonna sell something like 15k first week. A lot of good game like tenchu 4 and Rune Factory did that recently. I hope it can do lot better but still, third party software do not do really good in Japan these days.

Tenchu and Rune Factory aren't the type of games that sell outside of a niche market in Japan. Fragile, on the other hand, is a JRPG, which is arguably the most popular genre there.

Well isn't Rune Factory a JRPG as well? And since it did really well on the DS (sure the instal base is lot bigger). Also, for what I can remember, I think other Tenchu games did better than that. But my point was more that I prefer to lower my expectations because sales could really be a deception
I think FG'll sell well for some degree ,maybe about 600k's decent for this game.(maybe a million for life time.)
But i don't really know gamer's taste in Japan now ,so it's hard to predict exact amount of game sales.
Sounds great but they are going to have problems marketing this outside of Japan. Hell they are going to have problems within Japan because new IPs have not done so great there recently.
I just hope it's able to sell but they are going to need to follow through on that marketing promise because they are going to need it. They better have this prepped for E3 2009 to get some more exposure.
I think it will sell good in Japan, is actually in the top 25 bestseller in Amazon.co.jp one month before release.

I think it is still...
JRPGs sell in Japan
FPSs don't sell
Back in the SNES and PS1 era, JRPGs, especially ones from Square, had no problems selling in Japan. However, these days, you see games like Eternal Sonata and Baten Kaitos struggling to get an audience in Japan.
