Because the "studio released iphone games" look like this:

and the PSP games look like this?

or because you have to use a touch screen control panel where you try to do movements by moving your fingers around on a virtual d-pad, which makes the screen, which is smaller as it is even smaller because your fingers are in the way?
The Analog stick of the PSP may be somehow uncomfortable but this is no competition for people who want a really good game.

Not saying that the iPhone isn't a great device even for gaming but seriously.

Casual games like Fieldrunners and Monkey Ball and SimCity and Tetris are what drive the gaming industry, and these games look gorgeous on the iPhone. Nobody is buying an iPhone/iPod Touch to play button mashers.

Which is kind of the point, because nobody is buying the PSP to play those games either.

@Alby: It's about whether the stores can make better profit with the shelf space by selling something else instead. As you said yourself, the vacuum cleaners disappear from the stores after the model isn't new and doesn't generate enough profit to justify the shelf space.
Why did the stores phase out their UMD movies with 1-3€ a piece? Because they didn't create enough profit to justify the shelf space anymore. And if the sales go low enough, it may not be profitable for Sony to manufacture the device anymore.

This is of course true, but until now the PSP has sold 40m its sales increased 2008 if I am not mistaken and Capcom just said they would support it stronger 2009.

So where does the PSP is gonna die theme of this thread come from again? The only hard fact I found were NPD numbers of April that put the attach rate of the PSP at 4.2 slightly lower than the DS at 4.7.

@Dryden: Which indicates that people don't play "on the road".
The phone is the priority as a communication device. The more you use other features associated, the more you lessen its ability to work as a communication device. And that's the key here with the battery life. If you want a device for something else than communicating, there's really not much of an idea to get the iPhone (or any other smartphone) instead of a specialised device, which is even cheaper. The main reason for people to get a smartphone, is to use it for talking, sending SMS/MMS, for VOIP calls for calling friends abroad, use it for e-mail on the road and apparently some get ones for GPS navigator (not to forget people getting the expensive top-end models to brag with them).

People who don't think the iPhone (and similar products like google android) are major emerging players in the gaming industry are the same people who can't understand the Wii's success.

Casual games like SimCity? Cool. If you look at the sales of 360 games which are all a slightly bit more complicated than Tetris you might see that your argument is bullshit. Besides the NPD attach rate of PSP and Ds was not very different in April.

I love my PSP.

I hope Sony announces a PSP2 and fixes the litany of problems the first one has. Namely, software releases.

Yahoo can kiss my ass !

Check out my game about moles ^

AHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA gta was never a psp exclusive for handhelds... ever hear of a lil game called Grand Theft Auto Advance

Anyways, its true tho the psp is doing bad. Sony should make a team that makes games for it cause they dont have any aside for the guys behind god coo and daxter.

@Ender: But that's because any similar product to iPhone haven't made an impact so far. Of course, it depends how to measure success, since the mobile phones games market have existed years already and it has been very lucrative for some developers.
