The way I remember it, they were kissing some Sony ass before the PS3 came out. As soon as it became apparent it wasn't gonna go anywhere, that's when they turned. It doesn't help that the PSP's competition is a friggin' juggernaut. The DS still sells out today within minutes at my Gamestop.
Get on that bandwagon, baby!
Currently playing: Civ 6
the psp was awesome when devs were making games for it, now its just boring
i wonder is they will make a psp2

What!? Dude...no, it's not. Explain.
Just speaking relatively, the 360 is performing great right now, and the PSP...well this article isn't that far off to be completely honest with you.
The PSP isn't about to die or anything, but it certainly is performing poorly compared to ALL of its competition, and most of the reasons for this are mentioned in the article.

Yahoo is still probably trying to get Microsoft to reconsider buying them for 47 billion so sucking up to them by bashing their leading competitor is a good thing in their minds

Ive been on the nintendo bandwagon since 2004.. I have a ds.
Honestly that last quote is a fucking annoying quote, because that quote is what may be killing the playstation brand as a whole.

Almost 70% Market Share for the DS and we have "already writing PSP off" in the title?
Shouldn't it be "Finally writing PSP off"
I mean last year when looking at the (Soon to be release preorder page) when I worked at Gamestop.. we laughed every time a new print out came..
Developers are dropping the little Portable like it was yesterdays news because it is..
yes you will find a few developers that will stick with it, even bring a push of new games, that will not attract anyone, not to mention NEW bundles, heck maybe even a PsP4000 just so they can sell a few more..
Like the PS3 Sony tried too many different marketing aspects for the PsP.. was it Portable Movie Player?, was it a Game Player?, it was both... but you have to buy certain movies that can ONLY be played in the PsP and nothing else.. sound familiar?
O and to top things off, Years down the road we will make a New PsP that can play on your TV in Low Rez.
And lets make it so that every time you wanted to customize it the way you wanted we would trounce that idea with a new weekly update.
I mean I own it, what gives me the right to do what I want to it..
Genius!
Not to mention when was the last time you seen a NEW UMD movie?
I think even Sony them selves have given up on the PsP, not just Yahoo.
If you ask be the article is a year to late.

Sony in killing the Playstation brand in the interest of short term profit. This has been undeniable for a while now Leo-J. The common defense is "brandname isn't that important, look at the Wii shift from last gen."
...of course I can go into my spiel if you want, but not only would that seriously derail the topic, it would also be repetitive. Let me suffice it to say that the Playstation brand would have been much better off this generation were Blu-Ray not riding on its back, were Sony able to keep some semblance of any large 3rd party IP somehow attached to their brand name, and were Sony to focus their vast gaming fortune on many games over many genres instead of one big FPS game that is a sequel to a very bad FPS game.
Right now, if I could go back in time and run Sony, right now, the PS3 would be operating at a profit, have better(imo)/more exclusives on the horizion, and at least 1 big 3rd party game would be associated with the Sony brandname, still.
Hindsight is 20/20, however, and you must keep in mind, Sony decided to take this route. They chose to support Blu-Ray at the obvious expense of their gaming division and the Playstation namebrand. The hole they dug themselves financially with their longsightedness at BR's potential success, forced them to make poor short term decisions in order to stay afloat. There are no more Final Fantasy's for Sony. AAA 3rd party brand associated exclusives were always a finite resource, and Sony has squandered them, with the damage control of "We're concentrating on first party publishers." Now they're competing with Nintendo and Microsoft. Good luck with that in the future Sony. Their brand name won't help them next gen, that's for sure. Not unless they rebuild it...but look at me ramble on. I wasn't supposed to be discussing such poingniant matters.

I kind of agree with this, it's probably an underrated system but the software sales are so bad. The 360 just passed the PSP in america last week (less than 100k difference now) , but the software sales for that week were 8:1 in favor of the 360 and 10:1 in favor of DS. PSP has 2 titles in the top 200, both are bundled (i believe madden is bundled isn't it?). It's the same in others.
PSP is doing much better in japan but since the article is yahoo i can understand they are talking about the US.
currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
