Forums - Gaming - Star Ocean 4...atomic bomb?

This was probably brought up already (I hope) but SO3 had more sales in NA in comparison to Japan, so if SO4 had to be HD exclusive, I would say that the 360 would be the right choice based on that fact alone.

It will be a hit or miss in Japan just like WKC when some people thought it would bomb so hard...

star ocean is a small franchise, i dont expect big numbers. and once square sees the massive sales of WKC on ps3 (already 200k first week), they should learn a lesson from that and make their games multiplat and on ps3.

Star Ocean is not a small franchise, it is a million selling franchise. Its the biggest JRPG after Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest.

Star Ocean is not a small series. JRPGs from Atlus(except SMT) and Nippon Ichi are small. Star Ocean is pretty big now since SO3 sold 1.3 million copies.

Was Star Ocean 3 released in Europe at all? Because VGChartz' limited figures for Star ocean 3 don't include any numbers from "Others".

SO3 was released in Europe.  However, it sold poorly to a point of where there are no actual sales data for it.  It wouldn't make much of a difference.

What evidence do you have for that? Or are you just making this assumption because  VGChartz doesn't have the data?

I am making the assumption based on the fact that JRPGs are poor sellers there.  Even FFXII didn't sell a million there.

I know it's cliche, but I just hope the game is good.

PS3 fanboys...something I've noticed about you, is that you guys always resort to the business side of things, instead of examining reality.

For instance:

1. Instead of "the PS3 is too expensive" you say, "Sony CAN'T drop the price because of Blu-Ray."

2. Instead of saying "Star Ocean 4 is a 360 exclusive" you say "It's stupid/retarded to make SO4 a 360 exclusive."

Is it not also stupid to make Verses a PS3 exclusive?

The short answer, is you're hypocritical based on your bias. As always, I enjoy pointing that out.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Star Ocean was born on the Super Nintendo. The series should have stayed on the system it originated on. Actually Final Fantasy did too and a lot of other games. Why did those games move to a different console and alienate their fans?

Nintendo and Sega should be the only videogame companies alive today and allowed to make game consoles. Sony and Microsoft both need to leave videogames alone. Microsoft needs to go back to making OSes for Sega and Sony needs to go back to making CD drives for Nintendo.

The post I think you are talking about said that SO became popular on Playstation. (i.e. SO 3 being the top seller by a large margin)

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I dunno if I qualify as a "PS3 fanboy", merely because I prefer it over my 360 and Wii for assorted reasons (I've been playing my new Jasper 360 a LOT more than I did my Xenon 360, though, now that I have no fear of RRoD... really hurt the 360 as a viable platform to me, in retrospect), but... its seems sorta foolhardy of SE and Sega to Make games like FF XIII Versus and VC exclusives.  Obviously there was some $$ exchanged.

3rd party exclusives are lame, from the consumer PoV.  I know a buncha 360-only owners who are pissed they can't score VC for the X360... and rightfully so.  Then again, SRPGs have never performed in a stellar manner, especially outside of Japan.  Given that, it probably didn't take much $$ to keep VC as an exclusive to the PS3.
