Forums - Microsoft - Why the Xbox are killing Sony's PS3

Agree with Leo-J's post above.

Sony also is suffering from a lack of attractive titles that are exclusive to the PS3. Microsoft has hit the jackpot...
Obviously this bit is directly lifted from the WSJ journal article that alfredofroylan created a thread about.
I am wondering if you made this whole article up by cherry picking bullshit from several places.

Lack of exclusive games
It's gotten much harder to find compelling games that are only available on PS3, a strategy that has been very successful in the past.

Sony also is suffering from a lack of attractive titles that are exclusive to the PS3. Microsoft has hit the jackpot with two action-adventure game franchises, Halo and Gears of War, which are available only on the Xbox 360.

hmmm, okay, admitted, those two sell like hotcakes (don't forget Fable though), but to claim that the PS3 has no exclusives, and no attractive ones, is a bit much.

They have done very well in that department imho. Off the top of my hat: Valkyria chronicles, metal gear solid 4, GT5: Prologue (oldy), Uncharted (oldy), ratchet and clank (oldy), littlebigplanet, resistance 2, motorstorm 2. Not exactly "a lack of" imho.

Sales may be low compared to halo / GoW, but the offer is wide, varied and critically acclaimed.

The ps3 has titles that really attract users, resistance 2 could have sold MILLIONS UPON MILLIONS, the problem is that sony's stupid marketing techniques are horrible.

If R2 would have been on microsoft's side of things, im sure it would have sold almost as highly as gears 2, simply because they know how to generate hype, and advertise there games properly.

I think points 1 and 4 are fair.

1. The PS3 is currently overpriced in the face of the competition.

4. The PS3 is also not recieving enough marketing to help drive it.

As for exclusive games, that argument is old and outdated. The PS3 was, in my opinion, the best platform for exclusives this year.

As for Xbox Live, yes Microsofts online offering is more robust then PSN, but what boon was that to them last gen? Is that really an essential part of current consumers decisions?

In my opinion it comes down to price. Price and the fact that Microsoft are offering most of the big multiplats on their console aswell and are really adamant about letting the world now about it, via an extensive and strong advertising push in all regions.

The pendulum of sales has swung back in favour of the 360 this Xmas in the face of Sony holding back on a price cut. It will be very interesting to see what points do hold up if Sony do indeed drop the price of the PS3.

The user experience is somewhat burdensome
The games themselves look and feel good, but the experience of launching a game and getting up and running takes way too long

utter bull shit
You press X, and thats it your start the game...

Minimal modern touches (ie. Social features)
Xbox Live has a community and marketplace. Playstation Home is compelling but empty which should even out over time. But, the competition is so far ahead, Sony needed to do something much bigger and better

even more bull crap, seems the ps3 doesnt have a market place, and it doesnt have community aspects lol

The media continues its bull shit attacks against sony, and the ps3, really starting to get old.

The highlighted part is actually true, Leo-J.  Almost every PS3 game requires some form of installation.  It takes a lot of the "awe" factor out of buying a new game when you take it out and have to sit and wait a few more minutes to half an hour for it to install.  PC games are meant to be this way, console games are not. (and before anyone says "360 games can install too!", that is an OPTIONAL element to improve load times and decrease noise/wear and tear on the DVD drive.  When a 360 game is installed it runs FULLY off the HDD and not off the disc at all)

i think the only reasons "why xbox are killing sony's ps3"

Half the price most consumers don't know the arcade is a bad deal

Xbox has gotten almost all sony's 3rd party exclusives

period .

The arcade is not a bad deal at all... seriously some people sound more stupid than the "consumers" they claim to talk about.

The arcade is plenty to play almost every 360 game just fine.  It can do full Xbox Live capabilities, and is easily upgradable to have a hard drive and 3 months of Xbox Live for just $30.  The only difference between the arcade and Pro/Premium package is the hard drive, after all.  That and the lack of chrome on the disc drive.

so wen an arcade owner wants to upgrade to the 60g HDD paying 100$ sounds reasonable wen now they just paid the same amount that a 60g pro costs and they missed out on Kung FU and Lego Indiana, chrome trim, headset, and component cables so ur better off with a PRO or a PS3

wen i wanted to upgrade my ps3 i just went to best buy and got a 160g for less than 100$

and if u think im the only one that thinks the arcade sucks look at this

Unfortunately, you are the second uneducated consumer I have corrected in the last hour.  The $100 upgrade pack includes the 60GB HDD, ethernet cable, headset, and 3 months of XBL.  The arcade package includes Lego Indiana Jones and Kung Fu Panda as well.  The SD thing is true, but every PS3 is also SD out of the box and requires an HDMI cable.  That so called "article" was very flawed and was it really posted in October?  AFTER the 360 started ramping up sales and demolishing the PS3?  What an idiot!
