Samsung manufactures Sonys LCD


Yes they have a joint venture making the panels together. The factory is in South Korea and both companies paid half each. Not surprisingly Samsung is right up there with Sony when it comes to TV quality currently . On the other hand the panel itself is only a part of what makes the TV good. These boxes include more technology for upscaling/motion interpolation/ color correction etc. than Photoshop. The panel is only the canvas.

i see a few toiletised fanboys on here, for some derranged reason want to see ps3 fall of the map, stupid basterds........

instead of playing games and enjoying the best this gen has to offer on all 3 formats.........all they do is bitch about sony

I'm interested in the second half result.
Seems the crisis hit Sony harder than other companies.

The sony repair man, who was replacing circuit boards on an in warranty but almost 5 yo Wega Flat screen Super Fine Pitch tv last month, told me to buy a Sanyo, not a Sony lcd.

Infact he had 3 replacement screens in the truck for other people at the time. When Sony techies advise you to buy a competitor's tv theres something wrong.

I know this is a gaming site, but people are pointing out the fact that the gaming division is improving year on year, but have a look at last year as a total. The gaming division lost its smallest amount in the last 3 years and Sony as a whole only made a tiny profit.
The gaming division is aiming to break even for 2009, but if they performed that badly over all last year, then 2009 is going to hit them very hard.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.

PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far

its a joint venture, but in the same price range 32' 720p screens sony had stronger colors.

i am choosing between a bravia 2, and a LG scarlet or the 32lg30. the sony its winning right now because the warranty its 3 years, and lg not sure yet.

By first half, I'm sure WSJ means the data available for

Sony as at their Q2 (fiscal year as opposed to calendar year) results. Q3 resuls come out end Jan which will be 3/4 2008

we'll need to see q3 results for a better picture as it includes holiday retail period as well as "current" Yen/Dollar exchange rate hits.
