I dunno why people still think the 360 is cheaper.

I replaced my RRoD Xenon with a new Jasper recently...

If my purchase had been a new one:

$200, console
$100, 60 GB HDD
$100, wireless adaptor
$15 rechargable controller pack + cord
--------------
$415, unless you want to pump your controller with AA batteries constantly ($15 recharge kit is a steal compared to the AAs)

...pretty sure that's more than the price of a 80GB PS3, and with the PS3, you get a "free" Blu-Ray player, after you consider XBox 360's price. A HDD and wireless adapter are pretty freaking commonplace purchases -- I cannot imagine a serious 360 owner without a HDD (that would suck... no serious number of savegames, no demos, no HDD installs), and not many people care to install wired networking in their homes these days.

You can shop around and get the wireless adaptor for cheaper, why would you buy a console and a harddrive seperately? Batterys don't get eaten up as much as you thin, and wireless being more common than wired??!! I don't think so ... stop flaimbaiting kid.

Umm...  The HDD + console costs the same as the HDD+console combo?  And do you have any idea what AA batteries cost, as well as how much shelf space retail outlets devote to wireless over wired networking?

I guess that sore spot attracted the rabid fanboys who defy logic to make their arguments.  Sorry to all, if I drew those posters into this fine thread.

The HDD + console includes a Headset, ethernet cable, and 3 months of XBL.  Also, I do know what AA batteries cost.  If you get rechargable AA batteries, you can live off of 4 batteries for just $9.  Also, most Homes do have wireless these days, but most consoles still use wired.  You want to know why?  Because most consoles are located in the main living room with the main TV, the cable set top box, the internet router, etc.  Having a simple and cheap ethernet cable (included in 360 purchase or with the 60GB upgrade pack) is much simpler and provides much better connection.

Also, you can use basically any bridged wireless adapter without needing the official Microsoft add-on, for just $30 or less.  Did I mention you also get backwards compatibility with most Xbox games?  Oh, and the Xbox 360 supports 1080p out of the box with the HD component cables, while the PS3 requires a secondary HDMI cable purchase to get HD...

Seems like for an Xbox 360:
$200 + $100 + $9 + $30 = $339 (still much cheaper than a PS3).

PS3:
$400 + $30 - HDMI cable = $430.

Not to mention most people do not NEED a 60GB hard drive.  They can get a 20GB hard drive for just $30 for their 360.

360:
$200 + $30 + $9 = $239 (for a fully HD ready console with 20GB hard drive and rechargable batteries.  No wireless adapter necessary, but if needed, add $30 and get $269.  That's almost $150-200 cheaper than a PS3!!!! GASP!)

I'm sorry that, by posting, you in fact showed your own self as a fanboy, thus inviting this horribly thrashing post of mine to dispose of your so called "logic." If you really spent that much on your new replacement 360 (if you even really do own a 360), then you my friend.... are an idiot uneducated consumer.

Lol. Okay. Microsoft overcharged both of us this gen. I'd say they are the "winner" overall. If you want to pretend you saved some big money (somewhere) though, and that everyone else has as well... more power to you. That should help the economy some.

Ouch.  Thus comes the blisteringly painful post of Groucho's fanboy demise.  If you would like to pretend that you got some hidden "value" in your PS3 purchase, and that all other PS3 users have as well... more power to you.  That should help Sony stay out of bankruptcy.

Now I am off to go play my backwards compatible, fully HD out of the box, superior wired network Xbox 360.  You go off somewhere and practice fishing with your flaimbait.

"flaimbait"... that's a pretty interesting way to spell "flamebait".  Curious that both seece and nightsurge use it.  Is it the cool new way to misspell that word?  So commonplace that two supporting posters, backing each other up so soundly and quickly, would use it?

I was merely mentioning that the X360 costs as much or more than the PS3.  Your ("both" of your) responses stated that, if the X360 purchaser were to lose some pretty important items (HDD, wireles networking), that it'd be oh so much cheaper.  That's what I LOL at.

@Groucho:

You're an idiot.  Don't you know that wireless creates so much more latency?  Look it up!  I use my PS3 with an ethernet cable as should all gamers that don't want to deal with extra lag.  Also, when I bought my PS3 (granted it was $600 at the time), I had to buy a seperate HDMI cable that was $100 from Sony.  Of course I didn't let Sony rape me on that cost.  Face it, that tired old 360 costing more than the PS3 argument should be buried.

Also, the big point about recharging batteries: have you had to send your controller back to Sony cause it won't hold a charge? I've had to and it sucks. You might as well buy a new one for the time you have to wait.

Yeah, MS did a much better job on making the hard drive an optional accessory, because it seems like every game I get for the PS3 needs to be installed(around 3-5GB everytime!!)

Sorry but i'm having some major buyers remorse. I wish I just got the 360.  I'm tired of having the same games with slower framerates and lower resolution.  Why have you cursed us so SONY!!!????!?!?!?

I use wired.  Most consumers don't have the knowledge to set it up.  What makes you think I'm foolish enough to believe that most consumers have the same level of technical expertise as myself?

Wait.  Lol.  You were saying I was an idiot above?

I'm not comparing the controller to Sony's.  Although... Sony's controller will use any USB cable to recharge... you have to pay MS an extra $15 to recharge theirs.  Hmm.

Yeah, MS did a much better job on making the hard drive an optional accessory, because it seems like every game I get for the PS3 needs to be installed(around 3-5GB everytime!!)

Right.  I bet you never use the NXE install option, so you can hear your game over your DVD drive.

Sorry but i'm having some major buyers remorse. I wish I just got the 360.  I'm tired of having the same games with slower framerates and lower resolution.  Why have you cursed us so SONY!!!????!?!?!?

Nightsurge, do you have like 3 accounts?  Just wondering.

You are saying most consumers can't set up a wired network?  Well!  Don't you dare let them attempt wireless! That's much more difficult!

I use my PS3 with an ethernet cable as should all gamers that don't want to deal with extra lag.  Also, when I bought my PS3 (granted it was $600 at the time), I had to buy a seperate HDMI cable that was $100 from Sony

Wait.  Lol.  You were saying I was an idiot above?
Read the line below.  He said he DIDN'T let them rape him for that cost.

What's that? I can get rechargable AA batteries for $9?  What's that?  The USB cables are all very short so I can't play comfortably while charging?  What's that?  The battery in the PS3 controller is internal and requires a new controller when the battery fails to hold a charge? Hmm... $9 or $50?

Yeah, MS did a much better job on making the hard drive an optional accessory, because it seems like every game I get for the PS3 needs to be installed(around 3-5GB everytime!!)

Right.  I bet you never use the NXE install option, so you can hear your game over your DVD drive.
The newer DVD drives are much more quiet.  Even when they were loud, like the one I have, I can still hear over it with ease.  You don't notice it once the game is playing.

Sorry but i'm having some major buyers remorse. I wish I just got the 360.  I'm tired of having the same games with slower framerates and lower resolution.  Why have you cursed us so SONY!!!????!?!?!?

You should cry.. you made some very poor choices.

Nightsurge, do you have like 3 accounts?  Just wondering.

Poor, poor Groucho.  He comes into this topic, goes completely off course by mentioning some fanboyish argument over the price and add-ons, then gets proven wrong, then his only remaining argument is to try and bash us for misspelling a word?  I am very sorry that I have not pleased you, grammar nazi.  Next time I shall proofread better.

And no, I have one account.  PS4Life joined a while ago posting some positive "PS3 pricecut" article crap.. I don't know where he came from to post in this thread.

Also, I believe my response stated many alternatives, including cheaper HDD and wireless, all of which made the 360 a better value.  Now please, stop de-railing this thread on ATTACHMENT RATIOS and go rethink your "logic."

I "concede" to Nightsurge+PS4Life+seece+ probably frybread+<random low post-count account>'s "genious". Reading through the posts should make it obvious to anyone who cares.

In reference to the OP, I was merely pointing out that MS merely has a more clever pricing scheme... its not actually cheaper.  But of course, I'm "wrong".

Achievments

If you are a ps360 owner you will probably buy your games like call of duty 4, devil may cry, madden, etc on the 360 for the achievments.

-Trophies on games now, plus if you need instant gratification in the form of an e-peen stroke you shouldn't be playing games.

what your friends are playing

You might buy your game on the 360 insted of the ps3 because you can play with more of your friends. (Because the 360 has sold more units)

-WTF, buy whatever unit most of your friends own... a "larger" online community does not mean you will play with most of your friends.  Most of my friends own a PS3 which is why I buy ps3 multiplat games.

Top notch exclusives

Games like halo3, fable 2, mass effect, lost odyessy, Forza 2, viva pinata 1 and 2, Gears 1 and 2, etc. help the 360 become a software beast.

-It's call ESTABLISHED FRANCHISES, Halo3 is far from a top notch game.  I also prefer to play ME and Gears 1 on PC

The wii

Your mom might buy a wii and realize video games are enjoyable and not poison for the mind or just violence. They might consider getting them a video game as a gift every now and then.

? your mom buys you games?  Get a job.

Xbox Live

They advertize games like hell on there. They tell the people what discounts are available. You can also talk to your friend and see what they recomennd getting.

- PSN advertises heavily online and via email so I fail to see any difference between XBL and PSN in this aspect.  Most people buy games based on online reviews or retail sales flyers, not PSN or XBL.

The economy

-It's not so great at the moments so people are staying in their houses more and more so they buy video games to keep them ocuppied.

-This isn't unique to the 360 so it is flawed logic as per your post.

Bundling

During the Christmas season the 360 is bundled with many great games for families to enjoy, that is another reason the 360 has a lot of games sold.

-Truth its why they sell more games, but they are far from quality, great games (forza 2 was not bad lastyear but that was an attempt to establish the franchise name)

Great 360 pricing

The cheapest 360 costs 200 dollars, families can buy a 360 (that comes with 2 free games) with 3 additional games for the price of a ps3. That persuades people buy a lot of games with their hardware.

-acceptable logic actually

That's about all I can think of at the moment....hope I answered some of your questions.

Another quality post toastboy, keep it up!  Inserted reasons why your logic is horrible in most cases.

At least you admit it.

And you are right, as long as most people reading this thread are smarter than you, they will be able to see your very flawed logic.
