Forums - Sony - Home getting Criticized for Chat Filter.

Now i'm not a Home Fan, I havn't sense i got into the beta some months ago.....

But even I know the chat system will get better because it's a BETA..

But I also know that you have to be a certain age to play the beta so whats the point in being so stricked... as if people don't know how to put a space between (a ss)..

Home's zero tolerance chat censorship policy criticized

We trust the collective PlayStation Home-playing community about as far as we can throw them, but we can't help but agree with a recent San Francisco Chronicle article that criticizes the "game's" ridiculously strict chat censorship policy. The article explores the case of Michael Marsh, who attempted to start a gay/straight alliance club, only to find that the words gay, lesbian and bisexual (all "preferred terms" in the gay community) were being blocked by the profanity filter; a policy Marsh worries could encourage players to think of them as pejorative terms.

The filter doesn't just apply an unflinching amount of restriction to terms describing sexual preference -- "Christ" and "Jew" are also given the asterisk treatment, and even "Hello" gets blocked for its implementation of the dreaded "h-e-double-hockey-sticks". An SCEA spokesperson responded by saying that "user behavior and feedback" will help guide their changes during the beta process.

What do you guys think? Can Home users be trusted to utter the names of religious figures and issue polite salutations to one another?

They need to do something as the Playstation fanbase seems even more juvenile and immature than the Xbox Live fanbase. It's a problem and it could be a showstopper for Home.

lol.

Of course they're complaining that's their freaking job.

First they complain that they're stuck with a bunch of immature kids that keep trash talking to them and now they complain cause they can't trash talk.

Meh, can't really blame SONY for trying. No matter what there will be little kids in Home. Their perants catcha few bad words on the screen that could end in "less money for SONY". LOL

Perhaps the show should just be stopped if they're not willing to face these problems without censorship.

They can either have their free world or their political correctness. Not both.

I'll just continue my barrage of swearing on Xbox Live then.

Its a pretty universal right in the world to have Freedom of Speech, so freedom of speech should be allowed in virtual worlds too. Let it be Home, WoW, or any other MMORPG out there. I'm all agaist any sort of censorship in video-gaming because it's just a cheap wall to hide behind and pretend there isn't a problem. If people are having a problem with trash-talking in Home, the answer is quite simple. Walk away and ignore the person trash-talking.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?
