Forums - Nintendo - Wii - Last Week was it's 7th best month ever!

Yes you heard me correctly.  If you count last week's 1.87M units in the list of monthly totals for the Wii it ranks as the 7th best month ever (including this December which is already #1 with 2 weeks left to go).

  1. December 2008 - 4.56M (and counting)
  2. December 2007 - 4.27M
  3. November 2008 - 3.61M
  4. May 2008 - 2.50M
  5. December 2006 - 2.42M
  6. June 2008 - 1.99M
  7. Week Ending Dec 20th '08 - 1.87M

That is just amazing. I knew it did well, but I never imagined that it was doing this great. But I guess know we know what the Wii can do when it isn't supply constrained.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

I was hoping for a 2 million week. Maybe the Wii can pull it off this week, otherwise I'll have to wait for next year.

2 million a week that would mean 8 million !! a month, dude noone would manufacture so many consoles, ninty probably has only a few wiis left for december

Hahaha, that is an awesome statistic. I love how they sneak in weird Mays and Junes. I wonder how many non-holiday months will be their top 10 in a few years.

Thing is, it still is supply constrained. I've been in a number of gaming stores and Walmarts recently (see: since Christmas), and people have still been looking for Wiis and being turned back.

1. 2 million in a week doesn't necessarily mean 8 million is a single month, since sales fluctuate from week to week.

2. It's a not a matter of manufacturing, it's a matter of stockpiles and when they are shipped. The number of consoles sold in December always exceeds the number which are actually made in December.

3. We'll find out soon enough how many Wiis Nintendo has left for December. Supply is certainly a lot healthier than last year. I even saw Wiis in stock on Boxing Day.

I wanna see a 2m week too but it doesn't seem likely from the anecdotal reports of lack of Wiis. Damn supply constraints!

And next year should be only better, wow Wii surely is a monster.
