Forums - Nintendo - Are 500k sales a success on Wii?

The thing is this is a developer that said outright what many of us had been thinking.

But a lot of us know that appealing to a vocal segment isn't enough, so we are hopefully optimistic about the game, especially with Sega saying they are going to push it.

As for the others, it's because HVS said exactly what they wanted to hear, the way HD fanboys get all giddy when someone claims the Wii is a fad or there's no audience for core Wii games.

All the negative hype for it just builds more hype. I probably would of ignore Wii Music, but because of all the negative talk about it, I decided to get it for my daughter for Christmas. Guess what, she likes it. She has plays it more then GH WT. Granted, I didn't get it day one, but I waited until I knew at least some people liked it.  If people wouldn't of made such a fuss about Wii Music and how bad it was before it was even released, I would of just ignored it.  You are just hyping me and others for the Conduit by not ignoring it.

I rarely pre-order, but I might make an exception for The Conduit.

The Conduit was (potentially) developed for far less than people realize ...

From the sound of it, The Conduit has followed the same pattern of a lot of HD console shooters that is used to keep development costs down and quality up; having a short single player campaign (8 hours) and providing value by having a small selection of high quality multiplayer levels (each with multiple modes). Suppose that there are 8 hours of Gameplay and 8 multiplayer levels, and for every hour of gameplay or multiplayer map there is 2 man years of labour ... This works out to 32 man years of labour and a development budget of (under) $5 Million.

Going by numbers of Wii's sold, 500,000 is not a very impressive number.

But, going by cost of development, financial return, and general "successful sales" numbers, 500,000 is pretty good.

No More Heroes' numbers of just under 400,000 is considered pretty successful on the Wii. It's also considered very successful for a Suda51 game since it's his best-selling ever.

We all know the majority of Wii owner arent the people buying the 2 games I listed above.

Which is why I just wanna know if its good financially for 3rd partys. After all all they care about is the money and as long as they make it they'll keep supporting it. Games on Wii dont need to be sell 1 million to be a success which I think is pretty damn cool. The media will talk shit but hey the companies made money and they dont see them as failures I guess which is a good thing

Surely the majority of any console audience won't buy any game, since 50% attach rates are extremely rare, but I guess you mean that only a very small part of Wii's audience actually would care about these games.

I wonder who bought 1.5 million copies of RE4 or 5 million copies of Zelda. There clearly is a "hardcore" gaming audience on Wii. I fully expect the Conduit to sell a million.MadWorld is far more niche, but should approach 500k.

your using 2 established franchises bought on name alone to justify sales of a completley new i.p...not gonna work.

Depends of the game...

Zack & Wiki sold very well at 500k

Marvelous expect sells around 120k for Little King Story, 60k for Murasama Demon Blade...

So sometimes 50k is enought for a success on Wii !!!

I want to know too, I think because loyal HD console fans cant accept the truth that there console is losing. What I want to say; dont be depressed its just a gaming console SONY or MS didnt feed or paid you. Accept the factabs

absolutely true, and there are so many stupid excuses, for god's sake

btw, this thread explains why 3rd parties are developing both core and casual games even if they don't reach a milion

for example, the sequel of No More Heroes, even if it didn't made over 500k, it was still a profit and a nice sequel is sure money

don't mind my username, that was more than 10 years ago, I'm a different person now, amazing how people change ^_^

Thats why Namco was happy to report about TOS2 sales and THQ says De Blob was a commercial financial success. And Marvelous actually having a party with he 300,000 sales of NMH

Wait until THQ sees De Blob reaching a million ^_^

Talk about deliberately ignoring someone's point. It was about the audience those games proved, not the IP.

Yes
Development costs for the Wii are quite low in contrast to games made for the HD consoles. 500k is enough to make a decent profit and anything over that is just a bonus I guess

well maybe i should have elaborated more , audience becomes less relevant when a franchise is established , e.g i might watch LOTR but mostly dislike fantasy movies ,  play MGS4 but not really like stealth shooters or play smg but not realy like platformers.

the bigger the franchise the more willing we are to overlook tthe gere that fanchise is assocated with , this is whhy ii saidd bengas point was weakk.
