MotorStorm: Pacific Rift passes one million sales

Sony's PlayStation 3 racer MotorStorm: Pacific Rift has sold over one million units worldwide, according to the company's Worldwide Studios boss Michael Denny.

The sequel to the popular PlayStation 3 launch title was released at the beginning of November, entering the charts at number 29 in the UK and then falling the following week to 35.

But despite the crowded release schedule during one of the busiest months at retail which kept it out of the top ten, the title has broken the one million milestone, and Evolution Studios is already at work on new downloadable content for the game.

"We're pleased with the high Metacritic rating of 82 per cent and it's sold over a million units worldwide," said Denny, in an interview published today.

The original MotorStorm became a flagship title for the console in its early months, and has since become part of Sony's budget Platinum range for PS3.

Motorstorm: Pacific Rift Storms Past A Million Sold

Despite failing to set fire to retail sales chart, Sony Worldwide Studios reveals that MotorstormL: Pacific Rift has still managed to move over a million copies since launch.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Sony Worldwide Studios head Michael Denny revealed that the sequel to the PlayStation 3's hit offroad racer has done quite alright by itself since its October release.

In terms of the other titles it was also important to focus on – the sequel to MotorStorm, we're pleased with the high Metacritic rating of 82 per cent and it's sold over a million units worldwide.

This puts it on par with the original title, which sold 1 million copies in June of 2007 following its March release in the states. Looks like the original audience stuck around for more.

MotorStorm: Pacific Rift sells 1M, tackles bumpy charts

Who knew a racing game would sell? Sony did; that's why it made MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, which, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz, has sold one million copies worldwide since it, well, stormed onto shelves in the US on October 28 and subsequently jumped across the pond on November 7.

The PS3 launch game's sequel has hit some bumps on UK sales charts, debuting in 29th place and slipping to 35th for the second week of November. Still, GI.biz says that developer Evolution Studios remains undeterred in its plans to introduce downloadable content for the game, in the form of new courses and cars/motorcycles/trucks/ATVs/scooters. (Okay, we made that last one up. Just keeping you sharp.)

Ohhh boy...

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Holidays are on hold, let's get this fixed!

@ topic starter: The fact is that Sony probably means "sold to retail", while VGchartz tracks "sold to consumers".

 i dunno,maybe, but i doubt that

Sony talks about shipped numbers, we have sold to consumers.

And yes, half a million copies on shelves is usual business. YES, this has been discussed to hell so people are a bit bored now

yes, he's putting out random sayings, cause like myself we are tired of having to explain how this site tracks sales. Between this and all the MGS4 threads i think everyone is exhausted on explaining the ol "shipped and sold to customer" reply.
