I had a genesis controller too, and apart from it's coating (too slippery) I thought it was better than the SNES.... but I also think genesis is better than the PS1 controllers.
PS1 dual shock etc are better controllers than original PS1 because they have the analogues, but I feel they were not put in the correct position and don't feel as good as the N64 one DID.
The N64 controller was very comfy, it had 1 problem though, that being the control sticks wore down after about 2 years, so an old N64 controller is not so good.
GameCube is excellent, very comfy, buttoms all in the right place (arguably except z-trigger, although I like to have at least 1 button I can't press by accident sometimes, depends on the game)
Original xbox is godawful, and I am talking about the small version of it, I haven't felt the 360 but it is supposedly a good improvement.
Wii remote and nunchuck are excellent too, the main problem being when developers try to port a game over from another system without thinking about it (it just mapping to buttons that are not so easily accessible with the remote, like 1 and 2 buttons)
IF we talk purely about games designed for the controller, rather than showhorned in, I feel Wii+nunchuck is the most comfy mainly because it is seperate handed.
followed by GameCube
then original PS1
then Genesis
then SNES and dual shock are about tied, Dual Shock has extra features but SNES puts evrything in the right place.
then xbox.
