Forums - Gaming - Gaming is becoming as mainstream as movies?

Yet another trip to BEST BUY!

I went to the gaming section, and I noticed something.. the store had a tremendous amount of people, and Id say 70% where in the gaming section.

The ps3 section full of people buying games, old people, girls, teens, little kids, etc.. Wii section= same, 360 section as well.

I saw a kid, and he was playing wii, the kid left, and his mom started playing mario kart, and they bought a wii(shockingly in stock ). Another women was playing wii sports, bowling and golf, she loved it, she was with her boyfriend or husband, they bought a wii.

I saw an old man, he bought a ps3 because it played blu-ray discs, there was a women she was around 20-25, she bought guitar hero ps3, and a 160gb PS3.

360 section full of teens, buying a bunch of 360 games, and full of 30-50 year old men, and lots of middle aged women, buying games, and 360's (no arcades in stock).

The point is, there was barely anyone in the movie section, heck there where more people in the Computers section than in the movies section, a ton of people buying HD TVs though.

Even more, I think sony and microsoft did very good in making the consoles dvd players/multimedia consoles. A man bought a psp because of its move compatibilities, and MP3, im sure he will play the games.

Guys, the point is, I think GAMING is becoming more mainstream than ever before, its no longer a guy thing, or a nerd thing, or w.e

Its turning into a common source of entertainment, eveyryone is into it, because there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Can you believe there where more than 6.5 MILLION gaming systems sold last week?

yeah, it's impressive. Entertainment section during boxing day was mainly console sales! (it was a good deal at best buy canada 239$ pro, 399$ ps3 with LBP. While future shop has 259$ with stranglehold and halo 3, 399$ with bluray remote). And you were right, home theatre section is doing crazy these days.

Man, it's such a good time to be a gamer!

With that said, can we really blame Nintendo for bringing the casual audience into gaming? ^_^

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

yeh, HD TV's are cheap as heck, my dad bought a bravia for $549, best buy had 32" insignia for $449.

I was noticing this yesterday at Best Buy too and even today while strolling through WalMart.

In general both were busy but the electronics section of WalMart was overflowing with people and I had to push and shove to walk through the games section at Best Buy (I only made it about half way through before I decided to turn back-- I wasn't there to buy games anyways, just returning some gifts).

lol of course! this news is good to hear! it proves all the statistics that say video games make more cash then movies. for christmas I got 1 blu-ray and 4 games, then baught Fable II yesterday with christmas money :D so make that 5 games. I rent movies because theres no point shelling out $30AUS for something that will give you 2 hours enjoyment, maybe another 2 the next month if you watch it again lol. Your better off snagging a gaming bargain, like burn out paradise for half price! now that will keep you occupied for days! I played Fable II yesterday from 6pm to 6am ahahaha IT WAS AWESOME!!! thats 12 hours entertainment and I'm hardly even into the main mission yet! I look at $$/entertainment/time when ever I purchase something :)

If at first you don't succeed, you fail

Haha! I have a theory actually. Maybe Nintendo is training all the "young padawans" this generation, so that in the next one, they'll bring out harder games and stuff?

I'll keep dreaming!

Well we can look at this craze and condensedingly say..."Pfft...We were there before it was cool!"

Maybe gaming will enter other areas of our society. Like once I have kids, if my son does badly in school, ima force him to play 32X for a week.

I agree, gaming has become huge and for everyone.

But how did you pick up all those details about the people shopping in the store? It sounds like you spied on them lol.
