Very cool to give away your old 360; I did the same with mine
Have a Great New Year!

Just look at the back sticker where the serial number is located. On the left of it you will see the amperage. If it has a 12.1A, then it is a Jasper. If you see a 14.2A, then you have a Falcon.

Amperage is measured in Amperes (Amps) (A)
Voltage is measured in Volts (V)
Current is measured in Amperes. Potential difference is measured in Volts. Power is measured in Watts (1W = 1V * 1A).

The console uses 105W of power, the Falcon uses 123W and thats still too high for a slim model unless they have some serious power reductions in the works for 2009.
Tease.

Does it have 256M of internal memory? Isn't that the easiest way to tell?!
Trying to convince me the Wii is a real adult game machine 'if you play it right' is like trying to convince me Tofu tastes great 'if you just cook it right'
I don't think my pPro Jasper has the internal memory. For Arcades the 256 MB internal memory may be the mark of the Jasper, but AFAIK if the power rating area on the back of the console says 12V 12.1A it's a gurantee you have a Jasper. There are some Jasper that have reported been mislabled as 14.2 V, and if you look at the socket where the power supply connects you will see that the socket is keyed differently such that a Jasper will accept any of the older PSUs but a Jasper PSU will not fit a Falcon or a Zephyr. That's how you tell a Jasper apart from the older models.

On top of it, MS isn't taking any risks. Jasper units (at least the one's we've seen dissassembled so far) haven't displayed any reduction in motherboard elements, which is a key step before a slim unit could be produced. It even packs in the same cooling solution the Falcons use, despite the lower thermal profile.
Given how conservative they've been with Jaspers, I wouldn't expect the slim 360 until at least 2010.

It really depends on how the chips progress, but unfortunately the power savings from shrinking the chips are getting smaller every time they take it to the next level. As the transistors get smaller the leakage increases and means they have to keep the voltage and thus the power usage higher.

There are ways around that... maybe for the major valhalla revision they'll bother to redesign the chips with that in mind.
