The upshot of all this is that the components of the Xbox 360 are shrinking quickly enough that Microsoft already has space to maneuver INSIDE the console. Slim in late 2009/early 2010 anyone?

The console uses 105W of power, the Falcon uses 123W and thats still too high for a slim model unless they have some serious power reductions in the works for 2009.

On top of it, MS isn't taking any risks. Jasper units (at least the one's we've seen dissassembled so far) haven't displayed any reduction in motherboard elements, which is a key step before a slim unit could be produced. It even packs in the same cooling solution the Falcons use, despite the lower thermal profile.

Given how conservative they've been with Jaspers, I wouldn't expect the slim 360 until at least 2010.

It really depends on how the chips progress, but unfortunately the power savings from shrinking the chips are getting smaller every time they take it to the next level. As the transistors get smaller the leakage increases and means they have to keep the voltage and thus the power usage higher.
