Forums - Microsoft - Yes, I have found a Jasper with internal 256mb storage.

Didn't expected it but I went to Best Buy in Hawaii and it has a new shipment of Arcade Units. Well, I peeked in the serial and saw 12.1A (the sign of the Jasper). Manufactured on 10/19/08.

Couldn't resist so I purchased one. Went home and to my surprise it has no Memory Unit, it is integrated inside the 360. Replaced my 20G HD on the Unit and I noticed the Drive was much quieter and the Power Brick weight like 1/2 less than old one. It also is quit cool unlike my old Xenon 360, which feels like a fire place after long gaming session.

I will be giving away my old 360 to a little boy and from a elemetary school I volunteer in. I was thinking of trading in to gamestop to get some store credit but this is the Holidays so I will be doinf something good for my community.

For those who are on the fence, the Jasper is out and it is the definate version to get. I don't think it is availble on the PRo or Elite units yet. Hopefully it will come out next year.

Who else was lucky to find a unit like mine?

The upshot of all this is that the components of the Xbox 360 are shrinking quickly enough that Microsoft already has space to maneuver INSIDE the console. Slim in late 2009/early 2010 anyone?

I still dont know if mine is a jasper or not....

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Just look at the back sticker where the serial number is located. On the left of it you will see the voltage. If it has a 12.1A, then it is a Jasper. If you see a 14.2A, then you have a Falcon.

Mine is a falcon *sigh*

There is nothing wrong with a Falcon. It still has the 3 year warantee in case it crap out. My old one was a Xenon that I purchased since Jul 2006 and it hasn't given me any issue.

Knowing my luck, mine will probably explode, killing me, thereby rendering my warranty useless

My wife surprised me with an Xbox360 Pro under the Christmas tree.  A closer inspection of the serial number window revealed that it was a Falcon.  So I left it unboxed for a day, and the next morning, I went to the Fry's down the street in the hope of finding a Jasper.  The third box I handled was a lot 843X, team CSON, 12.1A, Jasper 60GB. Needless to say, the Falcon was returned, and this baby came home with me.  And other than the fact that it shipped with the 175 Watt PSU, this is the latest model all around.

Now it sits horizontally, right next to our new PS3 (which was also under the tree, but that was expected since I ordered it).  I have never owned an XBox360 before, so I have no point of reference, but this unit is definately a quiet console except when the DVD drive is spinning.  At that point, I can hear it much more clearly than I can the PS3 or the Wii, but it is not a really loud noise.

When I had this located temporarily inside the stereo cabinet with an open front, the unit got slightly warm to the touch.  I have since moved it to an open, table top spot, and it stays at nearly room temperature, even after extended periods of HDD installed gaming.  In fact the vents at the back of the new PS3 (which is a newer model as well with 65 nm GPU/CPU) get warmer after use than those in the back of this Jasper Xbox 360.  If overheating was indeed the issue causing RROD, then this one should be fine no doubt.
