Here are a few tables summarizing the sales by the end each year from 2005 to 2008 (as of Dec 27, 2008).

There are a few interesting points to clarify.
a) There is no year PS3 sold more than Xbox 360 so far. 360 has consistently outsold PS3 each year, although the difference is not that big. PS3 sold 96% and 92% as many as 360 in 2007 and 2008.
b) The gap between 360 and PS3 has consistently increased by the end of each year.
c) On the other hand, The fraction of PS3 in terms of 360 has consistently been increasing as well. The fraction of PS3 were only 15.5% of 360s in 2006 which rose to 71% in 2008.
d) Yearly Sales of all consoles have increased.
e) Market Share of 360 has sharply decreased to 29.6%, with Wii surging to 49.4% and PS3 21%
f) Wii's market share might be 49.4% now, but the market share for 2008 sales has been 54.6%, signaling to a tendency for an increased market share. It would very well go beyond 50% at this pace.
