some people here complain that the wii will not have the market share that the ps2 had so what? the wii already did way far beyond than what ANYONE expected even nintendo. for a console that came from last place the last gen and less than 20%a 50% is a great achivement. it already doubled the gamecube sales. and it is not going to be forgotten.

of course the wii will not have ps2's market share, it will surpass it...

It will probably surpass the PS2's userbase, but PS360 sales are way too healthy for it to match PS2's marketshare.

And that's probably a good thing. Sony and MS aren't agile enough to survive in this market with Gamecube-like sales. The gaming industry is better off with more players in the game.

Since x360 launch over 35 mln. PS2 were sold, you can`t ignore that. =)

Yeah... good point.

The Wii will also likely sell long after the other two consoles stop... so a snapshot now isn't accurate

Wow, it's the first time i've seen anything resembling a pro post from you that's not about Sony.

I'm proud of you.

And with the loss of in every console they sold THEY SHOULD BE. Well for me the sales of these consoles this gen could compare to the PSP and DS. A console that have a decent market share and a console that have almost all marketshare. I mean, even SONY was the most popular brand on TVs theres still panasonic, toshiba, lg, etc...

Not necessarily, it will depend on how well PS3 and 360 hold up over the next 2 years, if they peak and decline, then the Wii will probably top the PS2 marketshare

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)

Theres still the PS2 you know, its still competing the same market. In fact, I think the PS2 was SONY's main platform right now, not the PS3. I really want the PS2 to die to give way to the current gen but since SONY have no other choice SONy should let PS2  live for quite longer...

You're kidding right? The wii may outsell ps2 but it's inability to be a stand alone/primary console for a lot of gamers would ensure it never gets to thatkind of marketshare.

Most people who bought ps2s never bought any other console but a much greater % of wii owners have either a ps3 or 360 or both which gimps the wiis ability to gain marketshare.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

It´s really fantastic what Nintendo have done this generation. They have gone from last place to first, mainly doing so themselves without major support from thirdparties (about to change).

Most saw Nintendo as declining and possibly going thirdparty themselves since Ninty had seen sales diminishing with every new console they put out. Wii changed all that and changed the world of videogaming as well.

In the future I believe Wii will be seen as legendary, expanding the audience for videogaming and you can be sure that Sony are going to copy Nintendo for next generation (just like they always has).

Wii declining is extremely unlikely, as they have the most room to manuevar

Sorry pristine, but there is a whole populace out there who cares nothing for the 360 or the PS3, but loves the Wii

Sure PS2 is still around, but its sales are dropping off, it probably won't reach 130 million even
