Forums - Nintendo - Apathy for the Wii

Apathy is only part of the spectrum of ways gamers feel about the Wii. Like those kids that Avinash_Tyagi posted about screaming over their Wiis. Part of that is personality, I mean seriously kids scream over everything (half joking). I feel apathy towards my wii because it's been lacking in games I like to play for a while, whereas my PS3/PS2 has finally kicked into gear and given me a backlog of games to play (Personal 4 ftw).

Eventually, despite my dislike for the way wii does motion control, i'll play my wii again because it will have more of the RPG games I want to play.

I agree with Montana Hatchet wholeheartedly.

This thread seems more a complaint about developers or to developers than it is about or in antagonization of the Wii... Here I'll rephrase the title.

"Why can't developers make games I like as fast as Wii's sells!?"

That sums it up.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

Is this the 3rd or 4th thread on this subject in the last 2 days?

It's a matter of the normal cycle in Nintendo consoles that has led to apathy. Nintendo often hits an ebb twice a generation: a midterm break and a finals slump. So it was with the N64 and the GameCube. However, in this case, it's at an ebb at the wrong time, a time when PS360 support is in heavy flower, thus many gamers question their ownership of a Wii when it's just sitting around while they have no end of games to play on other platforms

That's why you also see groups like IGN's Nintendo division really starting to turn on the Wii. Matt C is a repeat offender in this case, as he loses faith in Nintendo as soon as they stop delivering the goods, he did it after this E3 and he did it after a fateful E3 some 5 years ago, when Nintendo touted Connectivity instead of Online Play, and showed PacMan Versus as their central title

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Well, so long as we're all getting things off our chests...

Some of the Nintendo fans on this forum have become the most condescending jerks with laughable double standards. Now, remember. I said some, not all. The majority are not like this. But some posters find it necessary to bash journalists and reviewers instead of actually blaming their beloved Nintendo for ANYTHING. They act like anyone who likes another console and/or tries to defend is not worth their time except for an offhanded insult or two. I've seen people predict ridiculous things (60 million Wiis by the end of 2008, 10 million lifetime for Wii Music) who don't even get a raised eyebrow when the predictions fall flat on their faces.

This has more to do with Nintendo fans than the Wii itself, but I felt like this was a good enough thread. I hate all of the fanboys, really. But because of Nintendo's success, Nintendo fanboys are often the most FULL OF THEMSELVES. And remember, I'm not saying all.

I have to agree. It's tough for most to swallow that something that doesn't appeal to them at all is destroying what they love. Kinda dramactic, but this is the internetz.

When things are slow I look in the forums I don't normally frequent to find threads I'm interested in.  What I find interesting these days is that I'm completely apathetic towards the Wii.  Normally that would mean I wouldn't even bother posting something like this but I thought it was interesting especially in light of some of the Wii threads I've noticed recently.

Some of these threads are bashing videogame sites or videogame journalists but to be honest I think the reason many are saying what they are about the Wii is because they too are currently feeling apathy towards it.  The biggest new games for the system in the past few months have been Animal Crossing which apparently is just a rehash and Wii Music which while having its defenders seems to really live up to its title of being a non-game because who really is playing it.

This of course will change in the future but for those bashing videogame journalists, maybe that's the reason they are basically saying what they are about the system.  After you talk about sales, and really how long does it take to say it's selling amazingly well, what else is there really to talk about?  Games that are coming out next year?  The Dragon Quest X announcement really shouldn't have surprised anyone and the game won't be seen for at least another year or two.  Other than that are the same handful of promising games that we've already heard about months ago.

Anyways that's all I have to say and this isn't a knock against Wii owners or anything, I hope you're enjoying your system.  I just hope it explains to some who think what's being said is out of fear or anger or whatever emotion you can think of, it's likely just indifference.

To me it is the entire industry as a whole.  There have been few Xbox 360 games that interest me, and even fewer PS3 games.  There have been some fun Wii games this year, but they are flash in the pan.  Play for 10 minutes, then you are done for the day.

It seems you're losing your interest in gaming. Perhaps it's time to search for a new hobby.

We gamers need to live a more balance life.  Your whole life can't be just about video games.  We need to disconnect from the electronic world and enjoy real life.  like my dad always says what does the video game do for you.  Beating a game or gaining a new level on WoW isn't an accomplishment in real life.  Gaming is fun but it shouldn't be your life.
