The_vagabond7 said: Let's see, IGN sucks because of it's wii bias (such as the article "Nintendo has abandoned the hardcore"), gamespot is supposedly notoriously anti-wii, gametrailers don't even get you guys started on that....so what's wrong with 1up again? They just happen to be worse for the sake of this topic? Ever listened to Nintendo voice chat (IGN's podcast)? They aren't exactly up on wii either....and they have to be. Their official line is "wait for next year, now let's talk about DS". |
So basically what you are saying is the reason we criticize these sites is because we are too fanboyish to accept the Wii's flaws and in your eyes they are just saying the truth?
See, you are confusing constructive criticism with bashing, which is what these sites have been doing.
Yes, the Wii is not perfect. Nintendo's online strategy sucks, they need a REAL storage solution and they do need to focus on their core games. But just as the Wii has flaws the 360 and PS3 have their downfalls and issues. Did we forget that even with MS promising that its newest consoles last longer there are still RROD issues with even the newest consoles? Their attempts at casual gaming have been laughable at best and it lacks exclusives. The PS3 barely has any noteworthy exclusive titles save for MGS 4 and Little Big Planet and both the 360 and PS3 are identical in games and features. So why aren't websites picking the living daylights out of them?
See, the problem is not how much these sites criticize the Wii, its how OFTEN. Yes, we get it, you don't care about the Wii. Do we NEED to be reminded of it every chance we get? It goes from concern to a desperate cry for attention, and this annoys people. Rather than trying hard to bash the Wii why not mention its good qualities just like other websites mention the 360 and PS3's qualities? As flawed as the Wii might be there ARE many noteworthy things to consider, like how WiiWare offers great variety in games despite only being a few months old, how some future titles are promising and how Motion Plus can affect current Wii affairs.
Finally, these sites pull off some questionable things. For example EGM, part of the 1up network, refused to review "Endless Ocean" over childish claims of being "a shallow casual title". Yet, "Endless Ocean" is the third in a series of games that once premiered on the PS2, games that were REVIEWED by EGM. Similar titles on the 360 and PS3 get some attention and are even praised. It just shows a double standard that can get annoying if it happens to many times.
Then there's Matt's infamous Wii Music review. The reason it got criticized was because on the E3 podcast Matt confessed that he couldn't wait to bash it to pieces. I'm sorry, but when you admit the only reason you want to review a game is to bash it you lose any credibility you have as a reviewer. Reviews are meant to be informative pieces of a game's values. Reviews tend to make the mistake of putting effort on just their thoughts without taking into consideration the consumers.
Not to mention that these sites are notoriously hardcore. They spend their time hyping big games, games that meet the typical hardcore demands (big, robust graphics, lots of violence and gore etc.) and don't give enough time to smaller titles that might not be hardcore but are worth your time. Game Informer, for example, has yet to feature a title like "de Blob" and "No More Heroes" on the cover, even if they are the Wii's best and most important third party titles.
So to sum it up, the reason we criticize these sites is not because we are blind Wii/Nintendo fanboys, but because the constant Wii bashing is getting old, despite some truth underneath the angst and wish for some type of balance. We accept and even ignore the 360 and PS3's shortcomings and just enjoy the games and its features, even when they aren't our main console of preference. So if we can accept the 360 and PS3 and such why can't the rest of the gaming media and community do the same with the Wii and move on? Why the constant need to scream into the world that you are discontent with the Wii, especially when others have done it to death?
THAT'S the problem we are having with these sites.
