I hope you follow Square Enix news and don't just generalize everything.

SE always said that their goal is to reach the Western market, and they know that in America, gamers are favoring 360 over PS3. 360 is somewhat popular in Europe too. They are trying to pull-a-capcom and make their franchise as successful as possible and to do this, they have to release on the 360. DMC4 proved that was the right decision. PS3 is still a big question mark for game companies. It's not hardcore enough, it's definitely not casual at all, more a blu-ray machine than a game machine for a certain percentage of the PS3 userbase, etc.

This strategy of counting on western sales is a complete and total failure, and DMC4 was part of what proved the total failure. How come some people manage to get the wrong conclusion on this?

The West audience won't support what they're making, it's just not sustainable.

Capcom understood it well enough and came quickly back to what they know best: making eastern games.

Why oh why did japanese devs choose to change two things at once in their strategy? When you want to know what is the problem/solution, you change one parameter at a time, not two. This gen, japanese devs changed at least two at once: change their game to try to mimic western ones, and release on platforms with more western market share. And it's pretty obvious, up to the high production value JRPG that look more like WRPG.

I say (and repeat) that Sony and SE (the Square part mostly) are destroying their franchises right and left, and it will come to bite them in the ass soon enough.

Given that their strategy to cater more to the West clearly failed, WKC clearly shows that the PS3 is the best HD candidate for JRPG. Still, it's not enough to sustain them.

I hope WKC reaches 500k in Japan, so that it has a chance to sustain its development costs by reaching 1M sales worldwide. It will depend on how well the online part is received in Japan, but the chances are low it will work actually. At least it looks more like a JRPG than the other, but it's still not enough.

How are Sony and Square destroying their franchises?

Prediction:

TGS this year for PS3 will be amazing.

Yeah, which is almost as much as the LTD sales of TOS! All because it was a spin off, or something. Whatever excuse fits...

Well, around 160k first week is definitely good. The problem is that a lot of PS3 fanboys have claimed for a long time that WKC would be the game that would prove that the JRPG genre still belonged on the Playstation brand.

These sales are solid, but not that much different from regular Wii or 360 JRPGs and therefore disproves claims that the 360 JRPGs or MH/DQ on Wii would be bad for sales.

How does 132K first day translate into 160K first week??? It is perfoming better than ToS:DotNW and it could outsell Blue Dragon's lifetime sales (210K) in its first week. WKC has already outsold every 360 JRPG's first week sales, on its first day. Saying WKC isn't performing much different from the 360 JRPG's is a bit of understatement don't you think?

This is a big budget, heavily advertised RPG. Comparing sales with a spin off on the wii and saying since its first day sales beat it that this is a success is crazy. This will not beat the takes sales by that much. Then, compare the budgets. To say this is an accomplishment is crazy.

Ha ha. It's also a new IP. TOS was also heavily advertised. Thing is, most people buy Wiis for Wii Fit, not JRPGs. A fact the Wii crowd try their best to deny.

Its a spin off. Spinoffs never sell what the original sold. Its not a full tales game. Everyone knows this. NMH has been the best selling suda 51 game, ToS has sold more than ToV, FE sold well, Brawl sold well. The problem is that people try and judge wii sales by shitty ports and crap games and then point out that "omg wii cant sell hardcorz". You can deny the fact that wii is winning, but you will be swept away as it begins to get the RPGs and other japenese games. DQ X is only the beginning.

Spin off doesn't sell well?? Tale of the World Radiant Mythology on the PSP will like to have a word with you... so does every single Dynasty Warriors spin off... Orochi? Gundamn? Hell even Samurai Warriors could be count as a spin off... Also... Dead or Alive Extreme vs Dead or Alive 4 in Japan's opening week isn't MUCH DIFFERENT AT ALL... Spin off of VERY VERY WELL established games shouldn't sell anything less than a total new IP from a not so popular system.

Too bad Sony didn't bundle WKC...

Too many excuses...

WKC already on 200k mark.

just like with LBP, people who want to put the game and it's success down will find a way to do so *yawn*

212,000 first week! erm 3 days

Wow people are still trying to put this game down without even playing it.

As for myself ill be writing a review on it soon. Almost finished the game and spent some time playing it online now that the servers are fixed (SCEJ fixed them today at 6pm Japan time).

All i will say is its a great JRPG.

Are we assuming it's going to do better than Valkyria Chronicles?

Hell, I'll predict 250k worldwide

hmmm

80k - firstday

145k - first week

I'm gonna say 150k first week Japan, total 250k.

89k

1st week - 150k in Japan

Around 120 k first week, don't think it will do too well, very old fashioned game.

i'll be conservative and guess 130k first week.

Japan: 200k LTD
