Forums - Gaming - If JRPGs are defecting to Wii, what genre(s) need Blu-Ray this generation?

DQ10 goes onto the Wii and a TO game so it means all JRPG are going to the Wii? People on this forum are really really short sighted, not long ago it was "Wii does not get enough JRPG".

FFXIII and Versus are 2 games which would need blu-ray, maybe even WKC. Multiple-discs FTL +_- (yh I would rather have an install :D)

lmao true............wii has 2 rpg and all of a sudden its a mass defection to the wii.............pull the other one wil ya.............ps to has many rehashes from gamecube game

Let me add a bit more to this discussion.  Apparently the DS and PSP are the homes this generation for JRPGs.  Even the 360 has got them, and the migration is beginning to the Wii.  What I am not seeing now is the PS3 really having any.  If the PS3 with its added storage capability isn't a deciding factor for JRPGs, with an abundance of FMV, then exactly what genres will find the PS3 the best home for them?  That is the core question.

If even MGS4 cannot fill a Blu-Ray, nothing will; it just makes things tidier by having just one disc.

Lulz at all the Wii hate.

What games need Blu-Ray. I agree with a poster abover who says games like GTAIV. Any enormous open world games and games that wanna push the hell out of their graphics.

none NEED it, but you can get much more features, bonus material, and just plain old extra content with having blu-ray. Developers can be fine without its capacity, but with it they can add much more

Enjoy

What Sony is calling "interactive drama" probably requires Blu-Ray. Of course, this leads to the question that if this is interactive drama, what have the other drama games on the previous Playstation platforms been? Uninteractive? I wouldn't go that far, even if The Formula seems to have done its damndest to keep interaction to a minimum these past few generations.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

Hmm a JRPG that needs? Bluray or multiple DVD's? FF13. All it means is developers who have the urge to make say a 300 GB game they have the option. What kind of a game would use that? Time will tell. But it's great to know your console is "Future proof". Looking forward to PS3 Vs. X-Box 720 long after the 360 is obsolete.

Sony didn't coin the genre or the term. Its been doing the rounds for years on the PC...

7th Guest? Myst? Riven? Uru? 11th Hour? Tex Murphy? Under a Killing Moon? Mean Streets? Farenheit? Indigo Prophecy? Point And Click Adventures.....

All and None....

ToS2 is on the Wii. But TLR is on the 360 with 2 discs I believe. I'm pretty sure it was stated some time ago that the PS3 version would be 1 disc. Lost Odyssey with 4 discs on 360, supposedly due to alot of prerenderd cutscenes, while LBP is 40GB on PS3 but on a single disc. It's 40GB due to alot of tutorial video's.  FFXIII Will be 1 disc on PS3, while Square stated that they are most likely looking at multiple discs for the 360 version.

MGS4 is a 50GB game [not sure how much of that is MGO] but it was said that alot of that is loosely compressed 7.1 audio. Rage [if not released yet] will be 2 disc on 360 and one disc on PS3. The Dev's said that the game will look slightly better on PS3 because the had more space for textures. But No More Heroes and LoZ: Twilight Princess are both single disc on the Wii.

Wii discs - 4.7/8.4GB
360 Discs - 4.7/8.4GB
PS3 discs - 25/50GB

It all depends on what the developers are making.... The fact that PS3 used BD as apposed to 360 with DVD's and Wii with Wii Optical Disc [some modified version of DVD is what Wiki told me] just means that you have alot of extra space on PS3. Is the space needed???? That just depends on the game...

MGS4 is not a 50GB game.

It is a 30GB game.

Wii optical disc is actually just DVD

Link??? I'm sure you're aware where I got my 50GB from, I wanna know where you get you're 30 from??

I stated where I got my reference, if it's incorrect then oh well.

Now can you actually contribute to the OP??

EDIT: I'd like to ask for the reason as to why you highlighted my few lines about the Dev comments on "Rage"?

I do apologise for not providing source I did not know it was needed.

My source for MGS4 being near to 30GB, in fact I believe it is actually 32GB is the illegal warez full rip of the game on the net. The Wii uses standard DVDs for storage and they are readable in DVD drives.

The bolded text I never made reference too was about RAGE but its not really important. I got a little defensive as I found your post a little pro PS3 biased. I decded not to pour petrol on the fire though as its all fun and games and no need for anymousity.

the 360 is the rpg leader and king this gen, not the wii. what game genre's need blu-ray are : open-ended massive worlds, sandbox games, games with lots of instructions on how to do stuff before u actually get to play the game(lbp), besides those game i dont think their are any other genre of games. i dont care what system gets a rpg, since i now own all 3 systems and both handhelds.

"Massive Worlds" do NOT = Blu-Ray.

Texturing a massive world takes very little space compared to having a large amount of FMV ala RPGs.

The reason RPGs are on mulitple discs isn't because of the size of the world.

Its the amount of video.

Without FMV I bet FFXIII would fit on one DVD - easily.
