Forums - Sony - Why would Killzone 2 outsell Resistance 2 (or Resistance 1)?

Well first of all it is NOT a savior. Up to now I think only GoW and GT5 can significantly shift hardware.

And KZ2 has proven trough the beta that it is a very well made game. Incredible graphics, from what I've seen the online looks very solid, it has awesome physics and the campaign looks really good. It looks pretty similar to CoD4 and we all know how well that sold.

I think that if Sony does enough advertising it could double the first week sales of R2 but don't expect much higher sales than that.

Killzone 2 will not sell more than 5 million units. It just doesn't have that potential. However, if the gameply is as good as almost all review sites and beta testers are saying it is (Call of Duty 4 meets Team Fortress) combined with it's legendary graphics, I could easily see it creating a decent spike for PS3 sales while 360 sales hold steady or even fall. Probably not comparable to MGS4's spike but more in line with the spike it got from GTAIV.

KZ 2 is the last in line of PS3 saving games. GTA IV, MGS 4, LBP, R2 and now KZ2. These games were meant to bring the PS3 out of the doldrums and get it selling like the 360 is now.Or maybe if everything worked out right selling like the Wii. But although the sales have been good they haven't sold enough hardware to say any of these games really have been console sellers. And KZ2 will be the same IMO.

Killzone 2 is NOT getting hyped as a PS3 savior.

The PS3 doesn't need to be "saved", from the game quality perspective. Its already the best (and most expensive) console on the market. Its last the current gen's marketshare race, but not to the degree that the DC, GC, and XBox were behind the PS2, last gen. The only thing that PS3 owners need to worry about, is losing 3rd party support, if the Wii crushes both the PS3 and 360 to < ~40% marketshare combined.

KZ2 will merely perpetuate the PS3's exclusive goodness. I don't see what the problem is, unless you're upset that you won't own a PS3 come February.

I beg to differ. Its getting hyped up to the max, and if sales arent stellar, theres going to be some serious crow eaten around here

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

And since when did internet hype = sales anyway? The gamers on the internet are some of the most hardcore, and are probably less then 10% of the PS3's users...

I don't see how its sales could be stellar.  There will only be around 20-21 million PS3s in consumer hands at the time of release.  Its attach rate should be the statistic to gauge its quality, from the consumer perspective.

I got the Killzone 2 European beta at the start of September and I was blown away. The physics, the smoke and particles, the animations, the audio... it's simply incredible.

Provided it gets rave reviews (I'm hoping it gets a Metacritic of above 90; sure as hell deserves it), it might be able to replicate some of the sales hysteria that surrounded COD4 after that game started getting straight 10/10s in November 2007.

One thing is for sure though - regardless of whether it sells 200k or 800k first week, trolls will still claim it has failed. Expect 'Flopzone 2' comments.

If Sony have an advertising blitzkrieg, however, this games might open nicely...

We should start now, with the Flopzone 2 comments. We can call it out for sucking before anyone here has even played the final game.

I'll start the ball rolling.

"Flopzone 2 will suck! After I shield my eyes from the awesome visuals and great gameplay, I will find that it is a weak beverage coaster next to my future copies of The Conduit and Gears of War 3. The slick BD coating makes it much crappier as a coaster -- no scratches, no traction. WTH Guerilla?"
