Just kidding, I wish her good luck. I've never had ANY of my electronics die for power surges.

lol are you doubting I have a gf or that she had a wii that broke? :)

If I say that you have a gf, do I get pics? :P

Let me guess... bonus points if she's playing Wii Fit right?

My Wii isn't plugged into a surge protector.

When my house got struck by lightening half of the electronics in my house practically exploded and most and yet my Wii was unscathed even though it had no surge protector attached :0

That sucks. Only playing your Christmas present for 5 minutes before it gets zapped. I hope she is able to trade it in for another one today.

A surge protector is an appliance designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes. A surge protector attempts to regulate the voltage supplied to an electric device by either blocking or by shorting to ground voltages above a safe threshold.

That doesn't mean you don't need surge protectors. A surge can be caused by a number of things among them: use of high power electrical devices like Air Conditioning and refrigerators, faulty wiring, downed power lines, lightning, etc. Especially in the summer when the energy grid takes a toll I've seen the transformer blow down the block (I live near a series of huge transmission lines) and if I didn't have a network of surge protectors who knows what would happen to my equipment. Honestly I have very basic models and after seeing what happend at my friends' place I really need to upgrade at least to something more protective.
