this RDM thing is 1920p, (Super HD) and at the moment barely anyone anywhere has a super HD tv, people are only just taking up HD, super HD adoption is at least another 5 years away and even then youre assuming that RDM will get early adoption from majour studios

Soooo... what your saying is Buy this new format, because your 1080p movies will look just as good and cheap, and in 5 years when prices of the "Super HD" models come down, we will be ready...

So true furture proof Format at the price of DvD's... ya I'd say it's a safe bet.

what studio is gonna adopt another format that wont sell for 5 years? i can see it happening in 2013 when people start buying super hd tvs, but i doubt any majour studios will adopt before then, and Blu-Ray isnt that expensive, its the same as dvd was when it first launched, and as for future proof, youre making the assumption that no one will release a competetive format and at no point do i suggest anyone should buy a technology that wont be value for money for 5 years and even then only if it sees mass market adoption and has no competting formats.

I don't see why the studios would not adopt this format; as long as it provides what the company is currently claiming. The players and media is suppose to be in line with current DVDs and upgrading the production to support this new format from DVD does not seem to require much.

Even if it supports resolutions that current TVs cannot display, it is not going to look worst than current HD movies. Lower cost and ready for future TVs at a lower cost than blu-ray; how is that bad?

Ok well... this New Format will have the rez that supports up to 1920p... so it will look as good if not better then Blu-Ray on your 1080p TV, and when 5 years comes around you will be ready, so a studio thats always looking for a ways to sell Movies will be interested (and thats ALL the studios), and once word of mouth gets out that something better, cheaper, larger (for 1 layer) there might be no stopping it..

_____________

Yes Blu-Ray is that expensive. It might be the same as DvD when it first came out but come on...

DvD was replacing vhs...VHS... Blu-Ray is replacing DvD.. not so much of an upgrade if you ask many.. (but there are thousands of discussions on that topic sooo..)

_____________

I'm making the assumption because you said that "Super HD adoption" is 5 years away.. and I said "this format is future proof" you buy it NOW and it looks amazing on your 1080p and 5 years from now it still looks amazing.

Your acting like this new format will ONLY play on a 1920p tv.. Thats like saying you can't view DvD's with you Blu-Ray player..

Here is the thing, it has been proven that 100GB Blu-ray discs can play in current players and the 50GB Blu-ray can handle a 1440p movie. 1920p is only two steps up from 1440p which means that 100GBs is more than enough for 1920p and 2160p.

Here's the thing, Blu-Ray is proving what it can do, when this format can do it out the gate. Just think what this new format will be capable of down the road just like Blu-ray.

(If this new format is what they say it is, I mean we might find out that it's not what it's cracked up to be... but for discussion purposes.)

whats the point of talking about the new format being able to handle SHD resolutions when BR is capable of doing it already and is future proofed to be able to do 4 - 5K+ resolutions with the future multilayered discs.

Even if the new discs can hold 100GBs a layer why would studios care when BR is already adopted and can do everything the new format can... no real transition for players just TVs unlike this migration which you need a player and TV for 1080p movies.

What Blu-ray is "Working On" This format can do out the gate, first day when it goes on sale in early 2009, it's ready for what BR has to "upgrade for".

Also this is a forum, were we talk about things.

"Whats the point of asking why we are talking on a forum?" is probley a better question don't ya think...

with no major studios backing it. it will fail hard.

This could prove to be the storage medium for the Next Box. Next Gen is really going to be Microsoft's time to shine folks.

I thought the future was Digital Distribution!

Nah, NextBox and PS4 will both have Blu-ray.

what studios are going to back this new format when blu-ray has hardly taken off? i mean, hd-dvd was cheaper than blu-ray, and that failed too.

That level of encryption is insane... if they can make something that hard to crack studios will jump on it like it's the greatest shit ever and dumb br like a ugly gf

once again. one hd format has not set off, what studio in their right mind will back another one when there are already millions of blu-ray players out there? plus, it's ironic but it's 'level of encryption' being 'insane' could be it's major failure.

blu ray discs of 400 gigs are already in the works :\ and they work on the old machines.

Check out my game about moles ^

wow 5 pages. All I have to say is this.

To early for another format war, and too fast moving upstream. Unless this is a new medium that revolutionizes storage mediums by making portably universal and easy to use. This is a dead consumer tech.

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.

what another format, comon there is no tv that can support 1920p,i believe they exist but not ready to be commerced.
