Forums - Microsoft - Cry On canceled!!!

Disappointing but we don't know what this means just yet. Cry On wasn't a Microsoft related project so this possibly has no impact on the relationship between Mistwalker and Microsoft. If Cry On has been cancelled for other projects (LO2 perhaps?) then it is nothing to be that upset over.

HA! I Fucking KNEW it! I knew this game was a pure figment of MS's imagination. What kind of name is Cry-on anyway?

Ah, I was under the impression that Cry On was also MS funded project.

Well, now that Microsoft secure support from Square-Enix , they probably don't feel the need to fund anymore of their own project, which is too bad.

@onyxmeth

I wouldn't call cancel project a vaporware. Grand Turismo Mobile , that's vaporware. I bought PSP because of the promise of that game.

It's been four years since it was announced. We have had no screens, no videos, no anything to prove it's existence, and Mistwalker has not mentioned it at all in all this time. I say that's vaporware. Are you telling me they have been working on it up until recently and now decided to pull the plug? I highly doubt it. Somewhere in those four years, enough work would have been done to warrant some form of public display of the game and what encompassed it. When Cry-On was announced, it was nothing but a half finished script, and I firmly believe it never got much past that state but Mistwalker decided to sit on announcing this for a few years.

I remembered seeing the concept art or something of that nature but that was long time ago.  So if MS is not funding the project then who is backing it?   May be they were trying to shop around for publisher and no one bite due to LO and BD?

I figured this would happen.

They weren't working on this with Microsoft, but their relationship with Microsoft (and the financials of AQ Interactive, the publisher) probably led to the game's demise.

We all know how Microsoft feels towards 1st/2nd party development (closing FASA, closing Ensemble, letting Bizarre and BioWare slip away), and it was obvious Mistwalker would be the next studio they'd let go. All of Mistwalker's games bombed (even their DS titles!) except for Lost Odyssey (and that's not doing well enough to provide any sort of substantial income), and once MS secured the support of Namco and SE (via Tales and Star Ocean), they probably felt that they didn't need to waste money on Mistwalker anymore.

Mistwalker probably has no money at this point outside of Sakaguchi's private funds, and the company is probably on the path of Free Radical and Factor 5. Cry On was their Timesplitters 4.

The game was being funded and published by AQ Interactive.  It was announced alongside such games as Vampire Rain.  Those bombed, pushing AQ to the verge of bankruptcy.  They canceled a few upcoming titles months ago, and I assumed one was Cry On.  It seems I was right.

I hope things work out for Mistwalker.

Nevermind, I read on Gaf that it was AQ interactive project. So yea, it is a vaporware.

I think I should go around and make sure every 360 exclusive list has this one disbarred.

I am pretty sure WarDevil for PS3 is Vaporware at this point too. Sad........was really looking forward to that one :(
