Forums - Nintendo - My Wii works with I pods?

I'm a little shocked, I was playing Phantasy Star Universe on my PS3 and decided to charge my new itouch, I have the 80 gig Ps3 so I have 3 extra USB ports available while my controller is chargng.

So in goes the Ipod and roughly an hour later I notice that it didn't charge at all, so since I was about to play Tales of Symphonia I remembered my Wii has two USB ports on it back panel, in goes the Ipod USB and it's charged.

Has me wondering if Nintendo has plans with apple... either way my Wii charges I pods

PS: I'm no Apple hater XD

Ooo... got video to show?

Add: I didn't think about my Wii, I'll check it out. Also my HDTV that have USB slot, too.

That's what I mean I didn't even consider it. Guess I was too busy thinking of it as a games machine.
I wonder if that ignorance is what keeps people at bay for it's community functions.

Surely the Wii should charge anything that can be charged using USB.

It certainly charges my Ipod touch and the childrens' DS lites

Were there any other devices plugged into your PS3 at the time? I can't imagine the PS3 doesn't support powering devices through USB, so I'm wondering if there were other devices drawing power from the hub at the time, meaning there wasn't enough power for your iPod to draw as well.

Either way, any USB port *should* at the very least provide the 5V power line even without knowing what is plugged in there, which makes it strange that your PS3 wouldn't charge it. I wonder if the PS3 similarly wouldn't power homebrew USB devices...

It charges my Sandisk MP3 player and my parents' Sony Ericssons. I haven't tried to connect my PC gamepad to it... it would be VERY shocking if it worked.

u can even tranfers files from the ipod to the ps3

At least as far as I've seen, the PS3 has poorly implemented USB ports. My PS3 controller will not charge unless the system is on. They should keep the USB ports on, even if I told the OS to shut off.

My bet is the Wii actually has compliant USB ports, while the PS3 has almost compliant ports.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

My controller was charging at he same time... the battery is full now but I believe it gives a chime meaning it recognizes the connection. It could be because I was playing a Ps2 game so maybe the Ps3's OS isn't functional in that way while playing a PS2?

@Jo21
That sounds awesome, I'll check that out another time.

When I plugged it into the Wii the Wii was on standby it gave a chime and the icon changed to charging, for the PS3 no sound, I just assumed it was charging. (assumptions are bad I know)

I'll try it again later; as for the itouch, once I got around how wierd the unification of its functions are found it very useful, especially the calander function. V_V
