Forums - Gaming - The difference between SDTV and HDTV?

Its like the difference between your typical TV and your computer. Even older computers beat the pants off a standard def TV.

The main difference between SDTV and HDTV is resolution. Also, SDTV is cathode ray tube (CRT) and HDTV is usually either LCD or Plasma.

£50 says there are more CRT HD displays available than LCD/Plasma.

I guess it is just my area, but whenever one of my friends get a HDTV it is usually LCD or Plasma.

The bottom line man HD will alwyas look better on either a 360 or a PS3. I have a ps3 and it used to be hooked up to SD and it was no dice, but the hd came and so did the hdmi and wow! thats all i can say. but the big difference i see is that the 360 just looks a little brighter but it all depends on the games man.

Yeh TVs are mostly LCD/Plasma but the number of CRT monitors (High Def TV) out there is huge. Many people don't seem to realise that they've had a 15"-19" "HDTV" sitting above their PC for the last 10-15 years. Probably capable of more than 720p too.

Gotta love marketing.

Most people don't care about HD @ that small of a screen size.  It is not nearly as important.  Once you get above 20", CRT's are expensive, heavy and take up 5x the room of a plasma or LCD.

In my area, other than projection CRT's (which suck compared to just about every other TV type) you can't even buy a CRT larger than about 19".

For better or worse CRT is a dying breed.

I just got rid of my CRT and replaced it with a lovely new Sony bravia, and it just looks about 100x better

It may be how close we are to the computer monitor, but the higher resolutions of CRT monitors makes a huge difference.
