Those people predicting that the Wii will lose marketshare in 2009 confuse me. It hasn't had a price cut, alternate colours, or a single official bundle (besides Wii Sports)

Good question, I just looked at my predictions for the year and it comes out as Wii having 52% by end of 2009. I wouldn't be surprised if its more than that.

I was really pegging for it to happen this year. But, MS's price cut kinda ruined that.

However, It will definitely happen in 2009.

Thought I would bump this thread now that we are half way through 2009 and about 6 months after I created this thread.

What are your thoughts now?

I think its going to be so close. Don't know which way its going to go.

The downwards adjustments of more than 1.5 million for the Wii kinda ruined the predictions I guess, had the number remained, then it would have been close.

Depends how successful Wii Sports Resort is. I mean Wii might be in a lull right now but so is everything else. But Wii Sports Resort is a huge game that really could set things differently. Not to mention a new Mario game and Wii Fit Plus. If anyone has the big titles coming out this year to expand their sales... it's Nintendo.

But I think a lot of it could deal with how much Nintendo does in Japan. WSR, Punch Out, Monster Hunter 3, NSMB Wii, and Wii Fit Plus could potentially give it a hell of a lot on expanded sales even outweighing the eventual FF13 explosion for PS3.

But if Wii wants to do this by the end of the year, it needs to take off in Japan. It'll get better in America and Europe, but it can really expand that lead in Japan.

I think it will according to all the huge games ( in terms of sales) which are going to be realeased this year: NSMB, WF+, WSR and MH3 in Japan.

Anyone to take a bet ?

If one thing, Nintendo needs to convince Japanese consumers that the Wii and DS are not substitutes for each other.
