Forums - Sales - What the top 10 will look like end of 2009

Now that Nintendo has taken the top 10 best sellers of all time, I thought it'd be interesting to predict what the top 10 will look like at the end of 2009.

What Nintendo games are going to enter and leave the top 10?

Are any DS, PS3 or 360 games going to enter?

Here's how it currently looks.

PosGameConsolePublisherHitsScoreSalesLast Update
1 Super Mario Bros. Nintendo 17,090 8.06 40.24m 31st Oct 08
2 Wii Sports Nintendo 68,335 7.86 37.97m 24th Sep 08
3 Pokemon Red / Green / Blue Nintendo 13,208 7.85 31.38m 25th Sep 08
4 Tetris Nintendo 6,004 7.82 30.26m 05th Apr 08
5 Duck Hunt Nintendo 6,239 7.78 28.31m 26th Mar 08
6 Pokemon Gold / Silver Nintendo 6,042 7.84 23.11m 26th Oct 08
7 Nintendogs Nintendo 30,627 7.84 20.89m 17th Nov 08
8 Super Mario World Nintendo 12,690 8.11 20.61m 17th Nov 08
9 Wii Play Nintendo 37,031 6.83 18.42m 24th Sep 08
10 Super Mario Land Nintendo 5,300 7.86 18.14m 25th Nov 07

I think it's obvious that Wii Sports is going to hit number 1 very early 2009 if not 2008.

I think we are also going to see Wii Fit and Mario Kart enter meaning the infamous Super Mario World will be leaving alongside Super Mario Land. Wii Play is obviously going to go higher.

I think we will see Nintendogs leave the top 10 to be replaced by Pokemon DP as the only DS game in the top 10. Damn flash carts.

I doubt we'll see a 360 or PS3 game entering.

My prediction for the top 10 2009

1 Wii Sports
2 Super Mario Bros
3 Pokemon Red/Blue
4 Tetris
5 Duck Hunt
6 Wii Play
7 Pokemon Gold/Silver
8 Mario Kart Wii
9 Wii Fit
10 Pokemon DP

Other notes for 2009.

Sega will enter the top 50 with Mario and Sonic at the Olympics.

Ocarina of Time will leave the top 50.

The PC could leave the top 20.

Pokemon D/P has no chance of passing Nintendogs.

Last week:

15
Nintendogs
Nintendo 191 244,518 20,848,914
23
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl
Nintendo 116 176,672 16,796,133

Pokemon could make the top 10 though, although New Super Mario Bros. may stop that happening. (one of them needs to sell more than Pokemon Gold/Silver at 23 million)

1. Wii Sports
2. Super Mario Bros.
3. Pokemon Red/Green/Blue
4. Tetris
5. Duck Hunt
6. Wii Play
7. Nintendogs
8. Pokemon Gold/Silver
9. New Super Mario Bros.
10. Super Mario World

Aside from Wii Sports taking the crown, not much movement in the top 5. Only new entry should be New Super Mario Bros. It would be difficult to think that MK Wii or Wii Fit will sell another 7-8 million next year although possible. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Brain Training, Wii Fit, and Mario Kart Wii will all be contending for the 11 and 12 spot and its possibly one will get over the 20 million mark and take out Super Mario World. Who knows.

Ah... I missed the "end of 2009" bit.... yeah I doubt MKWii will make it, Wii Fit perhaps.

Wii play is not a game, its a f*cking controller!!!!

Okay, New SMB will overtake the current 10th place. It is also likely to overtake the current 8th place (SMW @ 20.61M), as that requires ~ 2.5M more, and NSMB will have sold over 5M for this year.

So NSMB will push SMW down to 10th place.

Wii Play will increase, probably selling 10-12M.

Gets a bit tough, I should make a list.

1. Wii Sports (xxx)

2. SMB (40.xxM)

3. Pokemon Red/Blue (31.xxM)

4. Tetris (30.3M)

5. Wii Play ~ 29M

6. Duck Hunt (28.3M)

7. Nintendogs ~ 24M

8.  Pokemon Gold/Silver (23.11M)

9. New Super Mario Bros. ~ 21.5M

Then there's 10th place. SMW at 20.61M

Pokemon D/P has a slight chance, it sold 4.2M this year, and will need the same this year. Unlikely that it will make it. It will beat SMW eventually though. I guess 20M for this one.

Wii Fit will make it. It will need 6M next year, and Wii Fit will make that before the holiday season (needs 150K/week, which should be relatively easy for it). As a matter of fact, Wii Fit will NSMB down, and could sell 10M next year, beating Nintendogs. I'm not putting it there though, as it could range from 21-25M. Anyway, 10th place is Wii Fit.

Oops, missed Brain Training here. Should end at ~ 21M as well.

So it is:

Between 7th and 10th = Wii Fit

11th. Brain Training

12th = SMW

13th = Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

Between 11th and 14. Mario Kart Wii (it needs just 5M to make 13th, and ~ 7M to make 11th. Could of course make 10th by beating NSMB at ~ 21.5M)

15. MKDS - will be at 14M ETY 08, with ~ 4.75M for the year. Could make 4.2M next year, beating Super Mario Land at 18.14M

15. (tied with MKDS) Super Mario Land (18.14M)

17. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (17.56M)

So the top 16 will be Nintendo.

And what is more, 4 willl be Wii and 4 will be DS. Kaboom! Half of the top 16 (and possibly over half the top 15) will be Wii/DS!

And getting the top 15 is definite, MKDS could not beat GTA:SA though, if something odd happens.

No, it is a game that comes bundled with a controller ...

It may not be the best game in the world, but people are willing to spend the extra money (over buying a stand alone controller) to buy Wii Play.

Mario Kart Wii could make it, if it pushes hard enough.
