@Stephen700: Why do you think Nintendo would want to "upgrade" in 2010? It just makes no sense. Competition isn't threatening Nintendo, Wii propably keeps on selling and releasing the console early would just give advantage to competition by Nintendo putting their cards on the table, so that the competition could copy everything they like to and remove Nintendos possible advantage. And if Nintendo would make a "this generation" upgrade and then release Wiis successor soon after, well, Sega can show what happened with 32X and Saturn.
@mmin: Super NES had shoulder buttons and after it was released, it beat Megadrive in sales, so your example was bad in the sense.
Analog controller and rumble were both copied by Sony as soon as possible and the analog controller with rumble was replaced as the default controller in a comparatively early stage and within the same generation (and the controller was compatible with games that didn't support analog control and rumble).
1:1 motion control is "small" upgrade, but it does offer new experience. If the competition would go to that before Nintendo, they would have the advantage. WM+ was supposed to counter the competitions expected Wii Remote ripoffs (this gen), but since it never happened, it's propable that WM+ goes to effect next gens possible copycats.
Yes, it takes a lot more than just a new method of controlling the game, it takes good games that support the new method, but you need a more accessible method than a pad controller in order to reach a larger audience. If the 1:1 would be marketed right, it could be seen as more interesting and accessible than Wii Remote currently is.
