After the insistence of bugrimmar, I was convinced of creating this thread to pay tribute to the 10 best characters of the best RPG series of all time. I know 99% of you will find this list useless, since Suikoden is sadly a not very popular series, but please take the time to read how this characters are amazing on its own. And fans, feel free to criticize me for any omission (I know someone is already angry that I didn't put his favourite).
I'll try to keep the spoilers at minimum
10. Lyon
The Prince's bodyguard in Suikoden V, how can anyone not feel moved by her undying loyalty, her desire to put the Prince's life over anything else? Needless to say, the Prince's quest to regain his throne would have been way harder without the support of Lyon, and that support brings our favourite bodyguard to 10th place
9. Lucia
A strange character indeed, while in Suikoden II she was a ruthless (but nonetheless very interesting) enemy, in Suikoden III we see her as a loving and caring mother, whose primary objective is to guarantee the safeguard of her son and her village. For the ability to show that he can both an tenacious enemy and the most loving mother, Lucia gets 9th
8. Gizel Godwin
He loves making schemes, he won't care for the means as long as he reaches his goal...but is he really a bad person? That's one of the most interesting questions that Suikoden V posed me. While there's no denying that his methods are evil, he's fighting just for what he thinks is better for his country. He's not aiming for power just for the sake of having it, he aims for it because he thinks he's the man who can do what's best for Falena. For those (noble?) intentions but machiavellian methods, Gizel nabs 8th
7. Viktor
Viktor is a very interesting character. His town gone thanks to a vampire, Suikoden I and II show us that he's eager for revenge, but also can be a very valuable asset in our army. At first I thought he was stupid (and certainly he has some innocence within him), but then I found how caring he can be. And of course, how can anyone forget his memorable dialogues with the Star Dragon sword. Viktor gets the 7th spot
6. Luc
This one's a personal favourite of mine, I've used him every time I played Suiko I and II. And while in those games he's a faithful (though not very willing) ally, and one of the most powerful magicians at your disposal, everything is different in Suikoden III, where he's the main villain. Needless to say, I was very surprised for this, but the story that develops in the game made me realize Luc's true motives. And that very touching story gives Luc the 6th spot
5. Georg Prime
He barely appeared in Suikoden II, where he was a powerful ally that joined in the last part of the game, but Georg biggest story happens in Suikoden V. There, as one of the Falenan Knights at the Prince's service, he proves not only that he's one of the most overpowered characters ever (so powerful that you can't use him in the final battles), but also that he's one of the of the most loyal. All the mystery that develops around the murders, the scene where you remeet him, and also the eyepatch scene give Georg the 5th spot
4. Luca Blight
It's safe to say that he's the most evil character of all time. Kefka is a kitty against him. But beneath the head-slaughtering diabolic prince lies one of the most interesting personalities. Seeing his mother being raped over and over in front of him, hating his father for not rescuing them, convinced that it was his lack of power at the time what caused that, he won't stop till his maniacal obsession is calmed. And who can forget his memorable quotes like "Let me tell you something. There are weak men and strong men in this world. The strong men take everything and the weak men die. That's how the world was designed. Now I will show you how it works, weaklings!!!". The diabolic prince gets 4th spot
3. Snowe Vingerhut
The only character from the disappointing Suikoden IV (and in fact, probably the best reason to play it), Snowe shows a wide number of conflicts between him. He's the son of the lord of the city, but he learns quickly that that position won't give him any benefits in the military. His incompetence makes him grow jealous of our character and his success, and then he'll become a recurring enemy. But the emotions he show after every encounter, and the development he goes through the game get him the 3rd spot
2. Shu
One of the most brillant game minds of all time. Luckily it's on your side. He's a bit machiavellic, but his perfect analysis of every situation make himthe most valuable asset of your army. And how can anyone forget how you recruit him, and his scene where he's introduced to the army. For showing how easily a 2.000 men army can win against 20.000, Shu gets the 2nd spot
1. Jowy Atreides
This one was a given, no Suikoden character will be ever able to top Jowy. Your best friend in Suikoden II, the amount of things Jowy passes through the game will never be topped. In fact, a new game titled "Suikoden II Gaiden: Jowy's Story" would rule so much. And the ending scene with him is simply the best there is in gaming. For being the best character of all time, Jowy gets number 1
