Forums - Gaming Discussion - Has Gutiar Hero Peaked in Sales?

Well i was just looking at news stories around the internet about games and what not and found this artical(below) about guitar hero and how some people think its a "fad" or has peaked in sales after Guitar hero 3. I was just wondering your thoughts on this. By the way activison is planning on trippling the Guitar Hero releases by 2010.

IMO i think it has a lot more legs in it and World Tour should have its own legs for quite a while and i am really looking forward to Metallica Gutiar Hero.

In the artical below it says why it hasnt pecked yet. What do you think is Guitar Hero a fad?

While relatively sluggish sales of Guitar Hero World Tour has some convinced that the music game series has peaked, Signal Hills analyst Todd Greenwald disagrees. "Guitar Hero sell-through [is] a bit soft, but not a disaster," he explained to Edge. "Despite this 'weakness,' we disagree strongly with those who contend that Guitar Hero is a 'fad,' or that the franchise peaked last year with [Guitar Hero III]." Explaining his belief, Greenwald noted that the overall franchise is "up substantially (including extensions like Guitar Hero Aerosmith and Guitar Hero On Tour)." He added that North American sales for the franchises could be over 20% for the year, "while Europe could be up nearly 300 percent." And with Activision planning to triple Guitar Hero releases by 2010, Greenwald noted the potential of further growth for next year, pointing to titles like Guitar Hero: Metallica, Guitar Hero: Jimi Hendrix, DJ Hero, "and more."

Guitar Hero Metallica will give this franchise a bost.

End of 2011 (made 02/01/11)
Wii: 99.453 m
Xbox 360: 67.837 m
Ps 3: 60.726 m

Best Games/Serie of the Generation

Guitar Hero: World Tour (Wii) managed to sell 1.1m and is sold out everywhere around where I live. Maybe it has peaked for the other systems, but they really need to up the production of the plastic crap for the Wii.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

I don't think it's peaked. However they do need to get more content. It should be like Karaoke where there is enough content to satisfy everyone. Putting out half a dozen songs a month is not nearly enough. It should be like half a dozen albums a month.

it is getting hurt by Rock Band 2 which is a much better game.

Fixed

Rock Band 2, to its credit, has the backing of MTV and EA. They can sign tons of acts - like the new No Doubt content. GH did good with III but Rock Band stepped up and showed the world folks weren't scared of paying $200 for a virtual band.

Even with the song creator, GH doesn't offer the value that RB does. Shoot, you can even import your RB songs into RB2. That's so full of win.
