To be fair though......

It's just wierd (atleast for a yank) to see training game # 5,000 sell for 1m copies on everything.

You can complain about our every-year iteneration of Madden and NCAA, but to be fair, they have Winning Eleven X and Powerful Pro Baseball - they come out once or twice a year and never have I heard anyone take issue with them.

My problem is that the good games don't sell well in Japan - Xbox 360 games, PS2 JRPGs (Odin Sphere, Persona 3), Western games, and such.

Whereas in the US, everything that is a good game, generally sells well. We don't like rehashed Tales of Games, and JRPGs don't sell as well - but generally, things just always do well in the US.

It's not like we're upset their tastes don't mimic US/European fare, but desiring repeat and repeat of $10 stupidit training games just gets old. Yes, shooters get over-sold, but atleast they have story and gameplay. No one would get upset if Japan was the land of the platformers and every game played like Mario, right?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Interesting Famitsu and Media Create agree HSG5 is at approx 220k spot right now... I think MC numbers are more likely. This big drop looks suspicious...

Edit... sad HSG5 didn't beat Gundam's week record... Gundam really sucks...

Ok, I'm sorry, but I need to get this off my chest...

ATTENTION JAPANESE PEOPLE! YOUR TASTE IN GAMES IS TERRRRRRRRRRRRRRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO BUY SOMETHING WHERE THE CHARACTERS DON'T HAVE PUPILS THE SIZE OF THEIR KNEECAPS!!!

Ahh, I'm satisfied.

Yeah, you should look to the West with our endless FPS's, Movie tie ins and year after year after year after year of MADDEN!!!!

Seriously, our mass market gaming tastes are just as stupid as theirs.

I have to agree here, I mean, how many shooters are coming later this year? Lets be honest now, name those shooters, first person third person, whatever.

You will find that the shooters by far and away outnumbers the non games. They outnumber the minigame fests, they outnumber the jrpgs, hell they outnumber every damn thing, but people still complain about gaming getting saturated with these other types of games. Theres some saturation alright. Just not the type you think. But by all means, join me in purchasing Bioshock, Metroid, Halo, CoD4, Killzone, Socom:Confrontation, Army of Two, R6:Vegas, The Darkness, Medal of Honor Airborne, Quake Wars, Halflife Orange box, Marathon, Shadowrun, Brothers in Arms, Left 4 dead, Hour of Victory, Unreal Tournament, and some Haze AMIRITE GUYS!

Seriously.....I want to bonk people over the head when they say Minigames or non games infest the Wii or the industry in general when for YEARS now the market has been absolutely saturated with these godd*** games that just KEEP COMING OVER AND OVER AND OVER. But its somehow ok for them to exists in such a volume because we like most of them? But its a bloody crime for Wii to have 8 titles that are minigame oriented over the course of a year on the market out of 60+ games? Are you shitting me?

 THANK YOU for saying this.

What, so now your opinion about which games are good and bad is the only one that matters? What are you trying to say? Honestly... have you been to Japan? Do you even know how Japanese culture works? It all factors into this. You sound very racist and it's not acceptable.

Just kiss the tip.

I don't know how you can say that every good game in the US will sell well.  I hear a lot of people complain about good new IPs or other classics like Ico, Shadow of Colossus, or Okami.

If you looked at the top selling games of last year, a large majority of them went to movie tie ins, and sequel to generic sports game #23.  For sports title in the US we have what looks like 2-4 different franchises PER sport and something tells me that not all of those games finds an equivalent sports franchise in Japan.

@stof

Thanks so much for pointing that out!  I don't care about FPS shooting games but there's just SOOOO freaking many of them coming out.  When did this happen?!  I remember the days when it was just platforms and adventure games, when the heck did it shift where every other game is now an FPS??

Being someone who has been to Japan and knows alot of Japanese people, I would like to make the following statements.

1. I did not see any vending machines with school girl's panties. None of my at least 20 Japanese people I know don't know of any such thing.

2. Anime is a subsection of their culture. Most people don't live and breathe by it. It's a form of entertainment. You are not going to be greeted by cosplayers as you get off the plane.

3. Hiroshima is a perfectly safe city and is no longer radioactive. Trees and grass grow there. It's also a very nice place.

4. No one gives a crap about the drinking age. It's 20, but no place checked my ID at all, although I was 22 at the time.

5. 90% of the people are very friendly and welcoming to foreign people.

6. It's not a frightening place. It feels alot safer walking around on the streets at night than just about any place in America.

7. The obsession with porn is no more than America or anywhere else. They are sometimes just more open about it.

8.  Console fanboyism is not the same as around here.  They like a console alot, but don't spend as much time hating the competitor.

The obvious problem here is that you assume, as a baseline, that Training games are stupid. You use that word specifically. That... obviously skews your viewpoint. You see that, right? Because I don't agree with you. I would much rather play Brain Training than, say, The Darkness.
