Let's take a look at Slimline models and how far after launch that they came out latest (JP, US, EU), in recent history.

PSP. Launch March 2005, Slimline September 2007.

DS. Launch March 2005, Slimline June 2006 (correct?)

PS2. November 2000, November 2004

I don't see why 2.5 years after launch a Slimline isn't already in the works. It's most likely how Sony will swing a price cut by getting Manufacturing costs down and such.

I wouldn't be too surprised.

if this really came true, and it is a pretty big IF this early in the consoles life there would definatley be a big jump up in sales on the ps3. i would guess as much as 100,000 unit boost per week in others and NA for a couple months. maybe a little less maybe a little more

At any rate, with MS and of course Nintendo making further marketshare gains on PS3 this holiday season even if this was true it may end up being too little, too late. Sure as hell couldn't hurt though.

 

 I think they will certainly release a slim PS3, the question is when.

Anyway, maybe 2010. Sony is more concern with making a profit, so with the cost of making the ps3 lowering, its time to this baby down.

I'd say false. Seems way too rushed. The R&D and other costs needed to change to a slim model this soon would be too much for Sony to handle at this point. What's with all these rumors branching from a random meeting with "Sony PR" that just so happen to mention very important gag-order information in simple small talk?
