Forums - Gaming - Fallout 3 impressions after my first night. So.... boring.

I asked for help lastnight picking out a game and ended up going with Fallout 3. Now I did enjoy Oblivion but it took me a while to warm up to it, now I am pretty much going through the same thing and things that bothered me a bit before stand out like a sore thumb now.

#1 WAY too much dialogue. Everywhere I go it seems somebody stops to talk to me. Leave me alone for a moment and let me play the damn game.

#2 Sometimes the layout confuses the hell out of me. I reached the first town and it literally took me almost a half hour just to find the general store. Not to mention it took me a while to realize where to go after leaving the Vault. I hate having to go into the PIP each time I want to go somewhere.

#3 Wow, did this game take a nosedive in the presentation department? I know I have only played for aound 2 hours or so, but I know when I left the sewers in Oblivion and saw the world for the first time I thought the trees, grass, etc... looked beautiful, to be honest that game still does. In Fallout3 however it just looks so dull, just walking around the wasteland is boring and so much grey.

#4 I have never seen a gun more useless than in Fallout3. Maybe I need practice, who knows, all I know is that it is pretty stupid that I need to use the R2 and select a body part just to connect with a damn shot. I don't like taking forever to pull off a shot. Do I want to use Melee? No, that is what Elder Scrolls is for.

#5 Storyline. Wow, this has so far bored me to tears, I am not talking about tears of joy or tears of sadness. I am talking tears because I was yawning. No joke, I only stopped playing this game lastnight because it literally PUT ME TO SLEEP.

I have more gripes but I just wanted to put this out there. I really feel like I made a very bad choice lastnight and wish I could take it back and grab Gears 2 instead.

Anyone else severely let down by this game?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Thanks! You saved me from buying this game. I realize now it's not for me. I almost bought it last night.

Prepare for termination! It is the only logical thing to do, for I am only loyal to Megatron.

Wow, thanks a lot! I was wondering which game I should buy between this one and TRU, and it won't be fallout lol.

#1 You talk about the first hours and the tutorials apparently. Dude, keep playing. You can play dozens of hours in this game without sayin a word.

#2 You spent all your life in a Vault and you want to know in the first 2 hours of your earthly life where to go exactly??? O.O!

#3 It's a meta apocalyptic, post nuclear destruction world. What did you expect?

#4 No comment here. You'll find weapons that will blow your head off.

#5 Exactly as in Oblivion. Story's kinda weak, but the atmosphere and the narrative background is top.

My comment: I think you spent more time on actually writing this OP than you played the game itself. Need to tell something else?

I haven't played the game yet. Is there a lot more dialog than a FF game?

Not every game will be for everyone. I usually suggest renting a game as opposed to giving an opinion; opinions differs from person to person. I enjoyed the game myself; it started off a little slow, but I enjoyed the other fallout games as well.

You may want to give it another chance, as later in the game you may enjoy it more. Once you get to a higher level it may be more fun. If not, return it, trade it, or sell it. Whatever is best for you.

From what you said, I can't imagine you will like the rest of the game. You probably should sell or trade it.

There's a lot of map exploration and some tunnel crawling coming up, which it sounds like you would hate.  You also wind up using broken equipment throughout the game :).

Thats mostly at the start of the game. Once you get past Vault 101 and a little bit of Megaton, it ceases to be any sort of issue.

Exploration FTW? It's not a JRPG where a big sword is hanging out of every weapon shop. There are multiple shops, and you can always ask the townspeople where gun stores and such are.

Go north to Oasis if you question the design. Furthermore...Wasn't Fallout 2 pretty bland too? I dislike the sterility of the game, but it *is* after a nuclear war, ya know.

Yes, you do need practice. Using a combo of VATS and real-time firing yields incredible results. Also, if your weapon skills are low, the damage output is going to suck. Melee in FO3 is far superior to anything put forth in Oblivion or Morrowind..Decapitations FTW.

Where are you? It'd be nice to know what part of the story is that bad.

I seriously think your one of the 2% that didn't like Fallout 3. It was better than almost every RPG I've ever played...And easily my GOTY of 2008.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

These king of games are like marmite , personaly I don't like it because the gameplay is too slow. But I love the concept of the game and might overlook the gameplay for a rental.
