Forums - Nintendo - It's time for third parties to make Wii their lead platform

What N'Gai is saying is that going for the lowest common denominator -- or in this case the lowest common technology -- may be the quickest way to get the highest profits.

If you make something that a good percentage (40 percent?) of gamers can't play, you have pretty much "screwed the pooch" on potential profit. Last generation, you could make about the same thing for all three consoles. This time around, you have two HD consoles and one SD -- so you have to do more work for multiplatform. But the games that have done it have generally fared well. And if you make a good product, it will (eventually) sell on the Wii. (I added the eventually because the system has a different sales trajectory for many games, making people label as failure after one weeks games that often go golden or even platinum).

Fixed. At least here in the states nearly every show on every major chanel is already in HD. HD is now the standard for any thing over 30". Don't beleave me, go to best buy and see if you can buy a 30" or bigger TV that is not HD. You won't be able to because they don't carry them and havn't for over a year.

The only thing SD will be used for is small screens where resolution doesn't matter( such as hand held and phones)

It has been a few years where most TVs over 30 inches are HDTVs, and most TV shows have been broadcast in HD, and yet the Wii continues to dominate in sales in this climate ... As I said before the Wii and PS3 launched, HD is not going to be the selling feature HD-console fans think it will be until the next (or possibly the following) generation. People don't just have to want HD, they have to become so used to HD that they reject all things SD before SD truely dies out ...

Lets not forget that just because a TV says HD doesn't mean its able to show full HD resolution, it might just do the minimum HD equivalent. The cheapest models still say HD but if their not 1080 having a BR PS3 is somewhat irrelevent.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

The system that I bought in 2004 at Best Buy for $800.00 couldn't play those games.

You were ripped off my friend.

laaaaaaaaaaaaarge.

Third Party Titles. A Wii version of the game. Along with PS360 version of the game. Would be the best move from Third Parties providing they have the time and resources to carry this out. More sales would result in more profits to the developer of the game.

More Wii support, the better.

That's half a reliance, half a crutch. A crutch that is costing a lot of them.

I hope they never do.

For a good part they never will totally because the HD market is too profitable to just give up and the Wii market is still risky.

The numbers kind of argue against you on both fronts...have you read Bodhesatva's latest thread? You should.

Ok, just stop it. That's a trolling argument if i ever saw 1.

The wii has all types of users, not just casual. N,gai said it himself.

Oh well. It probably just means that the best current gen games in the latter half of this console generation will be on the most powerfully graphic last gen system until the new gen begins, and if things go as they did this gen, the best next gen games will wind up on the most powerful current gen system which will be released in a couple of years.

Heavens to Murgatoids.

That proves he is a Nintendof fanboy, even if he's made comments otherwise.
