Forums - Gaming - Famitsu White Knight Chronicle score (29/40)

*Sigh* why does eveyone think Famitsu was complaining about the graphics, that wasn't even the issue. The only main issue was the Online mode they were nagging about and that the game felt like all the other Level 5 games. Yeah, duh, it ain't a Square Enix production. They said the environments were very beautiful. That's why those scores are beyond my surprise, especially from a Famitsu. Or they suddenly have a huge grudge against Sony (like they had in the past against Nintendo) or against their own kind of RPG... either way, we can say that the Japanese aren't very reasonable, or the game isn't really that good and needed more explanation from Famitsu of "why".

That's just it, I've already stated the main reason they gave it a low score was 2 reasons:

1. It is hard to talk on the move

2. The combat system is too simplistic.

But we will have to see for ourselves, plus it isn't even fully released yet.

  • 2010 MUST Haves: WKC, Heavy Rain, GoWIII, Fable III, Mass Effect 2, Bayonetta, Darksiders, FFXIII, Alan Wake, No More Heroes 2, Fragile Dreams: FRotM, Trinity: SoZ, BFBC2.
  • Older Need To Buys: Super Mario Bros. Wii, Mario Kart Wii, Deadspace, Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2.

There is definitely more to list that I want, but that's my main focus there.

That is a poor review.

I read them and here are what they say.

First guy: The White Knight Keren and the enemy Boss' powers are good. The offline play is well balanced and can be played without having to strain oneself, but there are several little annoying aspects of the game play. The online play where you can talk and adventure with a friends in realtime could use an auto battle and auto run system. Its difficult to chat while running around or fighting.

score 7

Second guy: Being able to make your own combos, change your AC, and developing individual skills through battle is fun. The large enemies in the game are amazingly powerful. The online chat is difficult to do but they set up the online like a social networking site (SNS) and there seems to be the possibility for large network communication.

score 8

What the fuck?????

So the scores are lowered by 2 and 3 because of some damn communication issues?????? The first dude wanted "Auto-run" because he found it hard to talk and play?????

Is it like SOCOM where you have to hold down some button to speak or something??? WTF!!!???

I'm picking this game up. This review = BS to me...

I don't know how many times this has already been said on this board. Never read the Famitsu reviews, only look at their score. Famitsu respects the game developer and rarely put down a game, even if it sucks.

You may think it's worthless, but Famitsu has a lot of credibility in Japan. Also, this is not just a single review saying the game is mediocre, 4 reviewers are saying the game is mediocre. Unless Sony pulls a Microsoft and markets this game properly (which they won't) it will hardly sell.

If they can't explain the reason for the score then they fail as reviewers.

I don't live in Japan.
And so what if it has alot of "Credibility" there. That has shit to do with what I think of Famitsu reviews. Read what I typed.... "This review = BS to me..."

I never thought that scores of 7/10 and 8/10 were considered "Mediocre"...... I'm shocked right now. So what's a good game to you, 90%+??? To me, I judge how good a game is b4 buying it by READING some reviews.... wtf am I supposed to do with this review???

Wish I could have typed this last night but my connection was freaking out.

4 ≈ One

Btw, aren't there 2 famitsu's reviewing the game? The normal Famitsu and the PS3 Famitsu? I know ToV got 2 seperate reviews.

Wow. Can that even be called a review?

@ jetrii

Lol! You think Famitsu has credibility in Japan. They are known to give good scores to hyped game (ala most Gundam/Dynasty Warriors games, etc.)

outlawauron, what makes you think Famitsu doesn't have any credibility in Japan? Have you ever been unfortunate enough to walk into a store as it opens and have a wave of kids storm past you to get the latest Famitsu? The beauty of Famitsu is that it's not only read about the hardcore gamers, casual gamers read it as well. So yes, speaking from personal experience, I will say that Famitsu does indeed have a lot of credibility. I may not work in the video game industry, but I have a lot of fellow simulation programmers that have decided to enter the game industry as physics programmers, and trust me, they care about Famitsu.

Yup. I agree. How can people rip on Famitsu's cred.  Sure they tend to rate games in a bizarre manner, but thats due to the reviewer's bias towards certain genres.  As for being an established magazine, it goes back to 1986.  That was before a good many of this sites users were even born.  They have been around since the early years of the NES. They have seen it all, and their name is synonymous with gaming review in Japan. Anyone who thinks otherwise is only fooling themself.

Yes. The magazine started by previewing and reviewing NES (Famicom) games, hence the name. However, now that there are several other consoles the magazine has different versions.  Currently there is one for the PS3, Wii, and 360.

Nifty info thanks... when do those usually come out?

If I'm not mistaken Famitsu PlayStation only releases once a month.
