Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft recommends switching to a browser besides IE

I've been a Firefox user since the original BETA many years ago... I never use IE unless there is an ActiveX program that has to run for a webpage to function properly (so less than 1% of the time).

When I first heard of Firefox, I installed it and never went back to IE unless there was a problem viewing a page on Firefox.

For those times when a webpage will only load in IE, I use the IE Tab add-on for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1419

If you do a search for "IE" on the add-ons page, you will find a few other options that appear to do the same type of thing, but IE Tab is the only one I have every used.
I'm very happy with it.

Ever since I saw IE7's bastarised interface, I went to Firefox.

Ever since I tried Opera.. I never went back to FF.

I hate IE's ActiveX reliabilty. I always use FF and did some 3.1 beta testing earlier this year through October.

I perfer IE... I'm beta testing 8 so I use Firefox as my main browser for now

I prefer IE.

I said it.

Multiple home pages, superior tabbing, superior bookmarking. Seriously.

I have my firefox loading my gmail and yahoo mail accounts on startup (or home button, if you prefer). So multiple home pages is possible on firefox, even if it is a tad tricky to get to work.

As for superior tabbing / bookmarking, how so? im curious.

First of all there's a tab stub to open a new tab instead of command-T. And IE opens a new tab directly after the current one, instead of at the end of the line, so pages from the same website stay in line together.

Favorites, feeds and history are all in one click-open panel so that I can open a bunch of pages without renavigating a drop-down menu. It can also be reorganized more easily.

I'm sure some of that can be set up in Firefox, but I haven't been convinced to switch for a bit of speed and better standards compliance. IE is more of a standard than the actual standards anyways.

I have IE, Firefox and Safari all on my desktop though. And I have to admit that IE's content warnings are a pain. When I'm opening something from my desktop or that I just FTP'ed, I'm not worried about it being malicious, IE.

Try Opera.  As far as I can tell it does everything that IE does, and then some, and it does it all better.

Um... to the person saying that FF has no Tab Button, it comes with one, it's just not enabled by default...

@luisgvm

I think that Opera is fast and efficient, and has a lot of cool options. You should give it a try.
