I don't think so. Many more people owned PS2's than people that own PS3's.

Hard to know. Might also depend on how competing racing games do on the 360.
As a guess, I have it pinned at a 6m-8m seller - and probably the best seller on the PS3 during its lifetime.

I think it could. But maybe 8 million is more realistic. The first GT of each gen sells better which is funny. I think it could do 2.5 million first week 8 million lifetime
1 Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots Konami 3.63m
2 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Konami 4.01m
3 Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty Konami 5.58m
IF there won`t be MGS4: Substance, then MGS4 will outsell MGS2 in 2 years with average 80k per month.
GT5P may hurt some GT5 sales, but that could only mean, that GT5 may not reach 15 mln. this gen. Yet, with ultra realistic graphics, it may attract new people. Time will show.
Every 5 seconds on earth one child dies from hunger...
2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.
1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.
PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far
| halil23 said: How about the user base at the time of each series releases, so we can get a clearer prediction??? Anyway I think it will. |
Not sure how much this will help but I got the numbers for just the PS2 (so GT3 and 4) because the numbers for the PS1 were incomplete.
Here's a list of how many PS2's were sold in Japan, America and Total Others at the time each Gran Turismo was released.
| PS2 Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec | |
| Japan |
4.3 million |
| America | 4.9 million |
| Total Others | 2.7 million |
| Total | 11.9 million |
|
PS2 Gran Turismo 4 |
|
| Japan | 17.5 million |
| America | 31.9 million |
| Total Others | 29.9 million |
| Total | 79.3 |
I say it does sell over 10-mil., but it will take close to 3-years to do that.

Your prologue argument is flawed beyond all reason
GT5 prologue is the first one to actually be released in all 3 of the major regions
GT5 prologue is heavily bundled, more so than the others I believe
GT5 has been the version of prologue that had sold for the longest, due to GT5 being released much later in the consoles lifespan than GT1 or GT3

Check 1 goes to scottie, I'll edit that statement then.
It will reach 4 millions, maybe 5 millions if it have great legs but not more, unless bundled (obivously).
Well my prediction is that it falls short of 10 million, but not by much
Of course, I'd love to be proved wrong. Not because I like the game (Mario Kart's are the only racers that interest me) but because the devs clearly put their heart and soul into it, and they deserve it to do well
