Forums - Gaming - New information on Dead Island (PC/360)

I haven't really heard anything about this game until now. It's a survival horror game that takes place on an Island and is non-linear. It's being worked on by Techland (Call of Juarez, Warhound) and is due in 2008.  The following is some of it's artwork and a list of key features that Techland released to Team Xbox today:

KEY FEATURES:

  • Ultra-realistic combat
    • Intense and amazingly realistic hand-to-hand combat based on dynamic character moves and camera angles
    • Realistic physical reactions of opponents to hits
    • Exceptionally faithful and detailed damage model, showing damaged skin, muscles and even bones
    • Innovative system of targeting and hitting the opponents gives you precise control and a realistic combat feel
  • Advanced Artificial Life System
    • AL system allows you to take advantage of instinctive behaviors of groups and individual opponents
    • Living, breathing and dynamically changing ecosystem faced with the destructive influence of a spreading epidemic
    • Realistic and spontaneous NPC behavior
    • Through your actions, actively influence NPC reactions
  • Non-linear gameplay
    • Explore a vast, open world of a tropical island, on foot or in vehicles
    • Freedom of choosing your allies and completing tasks that bring you closer to the finale
    • Player decisions influence the way in which the game progresses, making it a multi-threaded story
  • Fully Interactive Environments
    • The ability to use all elements of the environment as weapons
    • A liquid, gas and electricity physics simulation system, which allows you to create your own unique ways of eliminating enemies

nice I didn't know about that game either.... but I always take with caution when they say what is revolutionary in the game.... all the dev say the same that their game is awesome and shit.... we'll see but it could be a good survival... we don't have much right now... but 2008 looks to be the year for that genre...

Cool! I'll be playing Left 4 Dead on PC, but this looks to be like a different take on survival. Looking forward to screenshots and more about how the game works...

LEFT4DEAD411.COM
Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

It's features remind me a lot of those that are going to be in Bioshock. I'm not saying this game will compare to that one but it is interesting that is shares simularities like that.

And yeah there's at least three other survival horror games coming out in 2008 (that I can think of) so you're right that it looks like the year for that genre.

Looks very cool. Crossing my fingers it will come to PS3, cause I love survival horrors. I can't say the ones by western developers have been as good (The Suffering for instance), but this one looks like it has a lot of potential.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. lol, yeah alan wake, alone in the dark.... when is due jericho again ???

I fully and obstensibly second that "cool"!

Also this looks like it might be a zombie kind of game. I've been waiting for a non-linear game ( not REZ) featuring survival and life in a previously inhabitated area taken over by a bunch of cannibalistic mutant zombies.

Does anybody else here have a hankering for some brains or is this just getting to me too much......
